NPD Group has released a listing of the top twenty best-selling games in the U.S. for the month of August 2019. The results can be found, which includes Astral Chain in the top ten despite launching at the end of the month.

Nintendo is certainly aimed towards a younger demographic when compared to its competitors. You can waive your T rated anime games in the air all you want, but it's kind of sad. Even the ads feature kids much more than the competitors. If you prefer Nintendo and you prefer those types of games that's fine. Nintendo doesn't only feature games for children, but the company is built on Mario and Pokemon. From the look of the hardware to the features. The games and the ads. The major creative decisions at Nintendo are made with a younger demographic in mind. That is fact.

People enjoyed Alan Wake, MS mismanaged Quantum Break, and Control was published by 505 thus no marketing.

I'm not a huge Remedy fan, but i was very impressed with Control. The fact that a good game with little marketing undersold doesn't take away from the fact that Control is an excellent and exciting game.

Remedy games never sold on Xbox in part because the style of game just doesn't fit with the Xbox agenda. It was never a fit. Xbox fanboys screamed about how great Quantum Break was, but nobody bought it. I guarantee Remedy would have more success with Sony. Remedy makes beautiful, third person, sp, action games and Control was a beautiful evolution of that. Remedy just hasn't had the right publisher. There is no reason why they couldn't sell with Sony. Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch make very similar games. These aren't Japanese niche games.

To say Control isn't exciting is bullshit. The combat is extremely exciting, similar to Infamous in a sense and the setting of the oldest house is enormously intriguing. Control is a quality game. The setting, combat, and gameplay path are all improvements on their previous game.

That's because nintendo gamers buy Nintendo consoles, for the exclusives. I known lots of gamers since the 90s and never once saw a game in there collection other than mk, Mario, dk, f-zero, smash bro.

That is a large part of it, due to the fact that their 1st party games are Amazing, so yes I partly agree.

With that said, the great sale success that 3rd parties have seen on the switch make the comment of "Only buy it for Nintendo games" an untrue opinion, My Co-worker bought a Switch because he wanted to play Astral chains, Bayo 1&2 and DMC on the go...not one of those games is a Nintendo made IP.

Besides that the huge to great sales sales 3rd party games and indie games sell on the Switch again makes your statement only partly true. This Switch situation is no different than PS4, Sony dominated this gen due mainly to the great 1st party exclusives along with great 3rd party games, Nintendo is doing the same exact thing right now, only with IMO better 1st party games.

I think what people will fail to realize and/or admit to themselves is that Nintendo is dominating so well right now because they are actually *catering* to the gaming community rather than a.) money grubbing b.) pandering to people who don't play video games or c.) pandering to casual gamers who only play 1-3 games a year. Non-Nintendo games in the Top 10 chart:
Madden: For people who only play 1-3 games a year (endless game loop & microtransactions)
Minecraft: For people who only play 1-3 games a year (endless game loop)
Grand Theft Auto 5: For people who only play 1-3 games a year (endless game loop & microtransactions)
Mortal Kombat 11: For core gamers but with exploitative microtransactions.
Rainbow Six Seige: For people who only play 1-3 games a year (endless game loop & microtransactions)

It's insane to think how much mileage Mario has gotten. I started gaming on the NES and Mario was an okay game...never saw it coming.

If you think Control looks drab you must not have played or watched much of Control at all. Some of the atmospheric, artistic, and narrative elements of that game are incredible. Some of the altered items and objects of power missions alone are so incredibly unique and interesting.

They combined their failing home console market with their hugely successful handheld market. And the games that are selling on switch is because switch does not get many 3rd party blockbusters like control, gta v, rdr 2 and many more games on the list, so the few good games they do get sell like crazy. If nintendo's 1st party games were so great then why did wii u fail miserably?

These tons of games switch do get are years old games and tons of indie shovelware. witcher on switch looks horrible, doom can barely hold 30 fps even at half the resolution, heck base og xboxone can run doom at 1080p and locked 60fps.

switch is what wiiu was suppose to be and nintendo realized they can combine their home console/handheld fanbase. By the time ps5 and next xbox comes out switch will slow down. and nintendo fans talk about switch sales like ps4 and xbox one stopped selling. The Switch has never sold poorly though neutral, so that point isn't entirely accurate. Sure the PS4 and XB1 are slowing down, but the Switch hasn't. It is selling month after month. Even if the PS4 was selling better that doesn't mean the Switch wouldn't still be selling very well.

The Switch has 7 exclusives so far this year, more than both the PS4 and Xbox One combined. And there still 4 left to go. And there’s still big third party releases such as DQ XI S, Witcher 3, Outer Worlds, and Doom Eternal. Few good games huh?

Wii U games still sold incredibly well though. I mean MK8 on the Wii U sold like 8-9 million copies and the system only sold approx 13 million units. Attach rate for 1st party software was still very high on the Wii U.

Well the Switch has very few games, so that explains Nintendo's dominance in the list, with people having to buy those games, or play nothing. The one that surprises me the most is GTA5. Its a great game, but how is it possible that it is still selling like hotcakes??
