Gears 5 Is the First Game to Dethrone Fortnite As the Most-Played Game on Xbox Live in Over a Year

Fortnite has been on top of the world for a long, long time now. It’s claim to being the most popular game in the world as things stand right now remains undisputed, and since the summer of 2018, it has constantly been on top of the weekly charts for Xbox Live’s most played games. However, as spotted by a user on ResetEra, that run has come to an end.

Currently, Gears 5 is the most played game on Xbox Live, and has become the first game in over a year to dethrone Fortnite.

It's definitely got that full package feel. Horde is a blast, Escape is a blast - it's just a damn fun game.

It's great as it is, but the more the better.

Oh I agree. But Fortnite is Fortnite because its constantly adding to and feeding its fanbase. The package there currently is brilliant, but they must constantly add to it and change things up if they want a healthy community for years to come.

Fitting that a former Epic Games franchise would take down a current Epic Games franchise. It's also a loud announcement to how sad and pathetic Epic has become and isn't even a shell of their former selves. Gears 5 is great and it deserves the attention, even now that the incredibly broken servers at launch have been fixed for the most part.

It's a very fun game. Those mp characters helped too I saw many of my old halo friends playing gears 5 cause of emile and kat, that's all I see people using too and I'm not even complaining that's awesome never thought they would ever do something like this in gears.

That is impressive but let's not forget the fact that many people will have got this on gamepass and also that many of them will have used the promotional offer of like 2 quid for a month or something I don't know but I'm glad that Microsoft did right with gears, congrats

This is great news. I only fantasize that Gears would more soundly beat Fortnite, that way Epic would go back to making AAA games instead of factory-made multiplayer.
