After close to a decade, Sony and Naughty Dog shut down the servers for PlayStation's greatest online multiplayer game.

Personally, I felt the PS's greatest multiplayer game was MAG.

That one is prime for a comeback.

bouzebbal1695d ago

Killzone 2 has the best multi-player

ilikestuff1695d ago

Last of us and socom confrontation were choice. I still play last of us. I still miss socom confrontation. I still miss when my junk worked too, it’s like a piece of beef jerky just hanging down there, can’t get a steady stream of urine to come out of it.... I’m off topic I think

UltraNova1695d ago (Edited 1695d ago )

I've said it countless times before, if Sony gets their head out of their b** and creates a modern day MAG with a serious BR mode they have the potential to have the next big multiplayer FPS and maybe even the next PUBG under their wing.

Sevir1695d ago

All Arguable. But Resistance Fall of Man, Warhawk, Killzone 2 all had fantastic multiplayer, note worthy mentions also include MAG and Uncharted 2 and 3 and Last of us on PS3.

This article is a bit misleading.. it's only the servers on PS3 that's closed The Last of Us and Uncharted 4 are actually much better experiences on PS4 being 60fps

Highlife1695d ago

Resistance fall of man had a great multiplayer. Back before perks and killstreaks ruined everything.

Knushwood Butt1695d ago

Ptetty sure Uncharted 4 multiplayer is only 60 fps on Pro.

I played it. A lot.

DOMination-1694d ago

Link please to where you've said that countless times

PurpHerbison1694d ago

Well, I definitely wouldn't want to see MAG get the BR treatment.

MAG was way ahead of its time, in some aspects it is even now. It ran pretty bad but it would have been perfect for a remaster on PS4, 60fps would have done wonders for the game.

Feralkitsune1695d ago

It was doing what Planetside did in 2003. Not really ahead of its time, just, unfortunately, went to an underpowered system.

Kribwalker1695d ago

Socom 2 on the PS2. Claymore bombed for hours on that game and it came with a headset so everyone chatted

PressPlayBros1695d ago

MAG was great. Love for it to make a comeback. Hell I'd even take a remaster, I'd be on it in a second. S.V.E.R.

xploz1on1695d ago

Agreed. MAG was really freaking amazing man. Miss that game

DVAcme1694d ago

Agreed. Warhawk would be pretty boss, too.

Nykamari1694d ago

You and me both thought it was the best!

akaFullMetal1694d ago

At knushwood butt

Uncharted 4 multiplayer is 60 fps but had to sacrifice rez a little at 900p.

Knushwood Butt1694d ago

Now I remember, you are right.

Pro is 1080p, 60fps.

I was getting resolution and frame rate mixed up.

Thanks!

hongthay1694d ago

I agree. I signed in just to comment that MAG was shut down long ago.

frostypants1694d ago (Edited 1694d ago )

The gunplay in MAG always felt so wrong to me...almost watered down/outdated. But the scale and chaos was just absurd and I've yet to see anything quite like it on any platform. I'd love it if they re-made it...same scale and squad elements, but with better mechanics, and easier-to-comprehend overall campaign dynamics.

My favorite PS multiplayer game is The Last of Us. It was/is just so unique in the suspense it generates.

EDIT: OOOHHH and Warhawk!!! God that game was awesome. The audio remains to this day some of the best I've ever experienced. Awesome musical score too...the title screen went through a couple of music revisions but they were always amazing.

Couple of the Warhawk theme variants:

No joke! Mag had to put up decent numbers sales wise I don’t know why we haven’t got a sequel

YungDragon1694d ago

People really don't give MAG enough credit. I would love to see that come back, but KillZone 2 was it for me. I hate FPS, but KZ2 had me hooked

Muzikguy1694d ago

Hearing about all these games really has me missing them all. Nostalgia for sure. I played these games (not MAG as much or Socom) and put so much time into them. Resistance and Killzone 2 I probably played the most. That is until COD started pumping out games. Now I don't play COD anymore and long for these to make a comeback. MAG would be great on the PS5

Latex741692d ago

Have too agree loved mag so much please bring a new one for ps5

Mag and warhawk were the greatest

derek1695d ago (Edited 1695d ago )

Oh yeah warhawk was the best

telekineticmantis1695d ago

Warhawk is one of the Best shooter MP's period, not just among PlayStation games.

frostypants1694d ago

It was like the Battlefield series with the chaos amped to 11.

DarXyde1695d ago

Warhawk was blissful madness. I'm not much of an online gamer at all, but I loved Warhawk. Pure chaos and diverse maps.

1694d ago
ParanoidFreak1694d ago

SNES and PS2 gave me my best gaming memories.

But WARHAWK is my favorite game of all time. Easily. 2007 - 2012 playing Warhawk. What a time.

u-bEttA-rUn1694d ago (Edited 1694d ago )

I don't comment on here often but I totally agree Warhawk was and probably still is my favorite multiplayer game ever...

I've spent countless hours screaming at my television protecting the flag

ginsunuva1692d ago (Edited 1692d ago )

Warhawk, MAG, and RFOM = epitome of skill based console MP games

INMATEofARKHAM1695d ago

I would agree that Ucharted 2 was the best MP game on the PS3... Sadly it seems like a lot of people never noticed it, simply playing the campaign and moving on.

It was unique, it played like no other game on any platform... Sadly, UC3/4 fail to live up to its promise... Hopefully an UC5 gets it right.

RedDevils1695d ago

I loved UC2 multiplayers, the best online third person on PS3.

Wintersun6161695d ago (Edited 1695d ago )

I'm one of those people who just ignored U2 MP. But I gave U3 MP a chance and liked it a lot. Too bad that U4 MP was a train wreck. TLoU MP was awesome too, I liked the slower pace and more tactical feel of it.

UNCHARTED2FANATIC1694d ago

Yeah a lot of people didnt experience it or did for such a short time to really see the quality it has to offer. I remember the first time I played uc2 mp I didnt really care for the 15 mins I spent on it. I came back 2 weeks later and actually sat down and played it and realized this isnt just a simple mp it was actually well thought out and extremely fun

Currently playing Drakes Fortune on crushing, next will be to replay Among Thieves, but I'm sure it still holds up today.

P_Bomb1455d ago (Edited 1455d ago )

Recently re-platinumed 1-3. Uncharted 2 aged better than I even expected. I enjoyed it more now than I did a decade ago. It’s more polished than 1, tighter than 3 and Yemen in 3 was gorgeous. Shambhala out-prettied Ubar though. 60fps w higher res’ made for a damn good rerun.

Abnor_Mal1455d ago

Question: When you say Uncharted2 aged better than expected, are you talking about the original PS3 game or the remastered collection on PS4. I ask because I think that a remastered version of the game would look and play better than the original.

I doubt that the original ran at 60 frames, how many years old is the remastered collection anyway.

I need to replay the original trilogy along with the collection, not a fan of the collection trophy of beating levels in a set time and don't think the originals required that for platinum.

P_Bomb1454d ago (Edited 1454d ago )

@abnor_mal
It’s true that the remasters have upped the resolution and given it 60fps, but the base game is the same. The art design and base textures/physics/ animations are the same yet still look contemporary. More-so than UC1 which isn’t as tight, or UC3 in some cases which I found a bit clunky in close quarters.

UC2 level design was a great evolution in bringing the verticality from the jungle into rural/urban settings while maintaining smooth animation transitions. Drake still moves better than the ginger in Star Wars Jedi. Outdoor areas are better lit.

UC2 also has more action and better pacing imo, which helps when replaying a game 10 years later. Kept me engaged.

You don’t need to time trial for platinum. They stuck the speedrun trophies in a seperate extended dlc category so have no fear.

MadLad1455d ago

I thought the originals were good, but not great. I understand that puts me in the minority here. That said, Uncharted 4 was freaking fantastic.

Profchaos1455d ago (Edited 1455d ago )

Yeah I understand the hate for 4 prior to playing it I was firmly against it and felt like 3 wrapped things up already but now after playing it I think it was the best in the franchise.

Now I look back at two and I feel like I'm playing an on the rails shooter everything is so tightly scripted including the infamous train scene you simply can't make a mistake

Rimeskeem1455d ago

I think Uncharted 2 is a lot like AC2. Both games took the idea and basically improved it in every single way.

Movefasta19931454d ago

Uc2, AC2,Halo2, Soul calibur 2, Killzone 2, Infamous 2 , Dishonored 2 and a few more. The only negative thing I have against uc2, and imo it annoyed me,are the blue apes, uncharted 1 handled the super natural far better.
