Anthem Not An "MMO" or Multiplayer Game With "Story Bolted on the Side"

More details of BioWare’s Anthem have been announced as part of the EA Play conference today. EA had previously hinted at big revelations for some of its most prominent upcoming titles, with Anthem being one of them.

Looks okay. But seems like EA copied mass effect, star wars and destiny and made a game out of it. Will never buy their games but I do like the mechs and the exosuit designs.

Jinger2563d ago

That sounds like a great combination if they take the good parts of each of those games

ApocalypseShadow2563d ago

It does. Only problem is that I've been boycotting EA games for over a decade for their business practices and companies/developers they destroyed.

If it was some other company, I'd probably buy it.

mav8052563d ago

You know Bioware was responsible for the Mass Effect series as well as Star Wars games right?
As for Anthem, I'm still undecided on it. If it's a heavily story-driven game with co-player elements it could be great; if it's a Destiny emulation, I'll pass.

conanlifts2563d ago

I think it is more a cross between titanfall and mass effect. The heavy weapons are similar to those in titanfall. The only similarity i see with Destiny is you can play with a friend.

conanlifts2563d ago

" Only problem is that I've been boycotting EA games for over a decade for their business practices and companies/developers they destroyed"

This is unusual. EA are still thriving despite your boycott and you have missed some great games. Overall i would say you are the one missing out. But hey each to their own.

On the flip side great job sticking to your beliefs. Not often people take a stand for so long.

ApocalypseShadow2562d ago (Edited 2562d ago )

Yup. If you knew EA like I do, and not just current talk about them, you would know why.

Actually found that I don't miss their games like in the days of sega genesis, ps,etc. There are hundreds of games made with their name not on it. And I buy them instead.

HighlyDoubtful2563d ago

Boycotting for over a decade lmfao. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

ApocalypseShadow2562d ago

Yup. They don't deserve my money.

Well you certainly didn't do a convincing job of proving that it isn't a MMO or a multiplayer game with "story bolted on the side".

Where was the story trailer? When you feel the need to explain something to convince people its story is not side bolted or multiplayer focused, then you know you aren't presenting the game correctly. To me, that just makes me more suspicious of how much of a story is there when you feel you need to tell people that.

Nothing about that gameplay screamed mmo

deadfrag2563d ago (Edited 2563d ago )

But MP it is.And now because they dont want to lose the money from people that like to play Games storys solo and because what is actually selling this year is SP games from the competition they EA come and again lies...no,no,no Athem its not and MMO or a Co-op multiplayer game with a story bolt to it.BS,screw you EA!

chiefJohn1172563d ago

Deadfrag.....wtf are you talking about? Lol DP crowd is getting annoyed you can't even add optional co-op without them complaining.

TheOttomatic912563d ago

My gut tells me that the opposite is true but that doesn’t mean the game won’t be fun, still not supporting it though.

Mark Darrah: stop harassing devs because you don't know what caused "the thing that you're mad at"

Former BioWare executive Mark Darrah says "be a human being, have some empathy."
Fans don't know who is actually to blame.
Darrah throws up a hypothetical that someone might not like how an actor delivered a line. Sure, it could well be down to the actor, but it also might be down to who was directing them, how the writer asked their work to be delivered, or maybe that was the only take they got.

This line from the video though

"Maybe the CEO of the entire company really wanted his nephew to be hired as a script consultant and this guy with literally zero experience was coming in and pushing for mandatory changes"

Like others have said that seems far too specific to just be an example...

Eonjay116d ago

Exactly. And the crazy part about this is that the people there just doing their job and trying to make a living are the one's getting hurt and losing their jobs. I am also not a fan of targeting specific individuals. Its poor form. These are video games.

RiseNShine116d ago

If only there was a single problem with this game, it was a train wreck waiting to crash and burn.

thorstein115d ago (Edited 115d ago )

As usual, common sense falls on deaf ears. I mean, he thinks this article is about Dragon Age Veilguard. He rejects logic and evidence.

What possible logic or evidence can you provide to convince him otherwise.

Notellin115d ago

The community has spoken and would like for you to stop instead.

Armaggedon114d ago (Edited 114d ago )

@Thorstein

Cant expect people to see reason now a days.

@Notellin
Sure. Go ahead and bury yourselves beneath your own ignorance.

thorstein115d ago

This article isn't about that game.

Gamingsince1981115d ago

Veilguard was complete trash though anyway.

Notellin115d ago

Then don't use it for the thumbnail. It's misleading on purpose to draw this reaction.

thorstein115d ago

Or...I don't know... read the article.

Personally, i think we should always blame and criticize the management (especially top management; like with EA - every screw up should be blamed on Andrew Wilson and his goons). They're the ones with the power, the ones who have the last say in the matter - whatever is the plot details, gameplay, microtransactions, budget and «It's ok that it's buggy and crashes constantly, release the game ASAP, we'll fix it later».

Harrasement is not ok in my book, although, nowadays, many people paint every type of criticism (whatever warranted or not) as harrasement. Which is a very narrowminded and waters down actual harrasement problems. But, i guess, it makes it easier to ignore everything bad you see aimed towards yourself.

I would also like to add, that this topic is a double-edged sword, some developers are being mean to their customers, calling them names or any sort of -isms, that happens. In that case, don't be surprised, that, when you're «firing shots», customers are «shooting back» at you.

SimpleDad116d ago

We do want better games, and we get them by criticizing bad ones.

Eonjay116d ago

No you don't. Everything is criticized by somebody these days. By that logic everything is bad. Thats just more fuel for the echo chamber. The way you get games you want is by supporting the types of games you want by buying them. You want more games like Astrobot? Buy Astrobot. Recommend it to others. Its not about bashing what you don't like. its about supporting what you do like. Money talks.

SimpleDad116d ago

Absolutely, I buy my games cause subscriptions are also part of the problem. I don't criticize myself personally, but by observing criticism by others, I avoid purchasing games with problems.

TheColbertinator116d ago

No we don't. FIFA and Madden get criticized every year and the games get worse and more overpriced.

Christopher116d ago

Lack of profit is the only way to do it, but people are fine buying shit games every day, just not the shit games we talk about regularly here. We distract ourselves with this stupid 'social mirage' issue and the corporations get to keep doing less and less but selling it for more and more.

Armaggedon115d ago

“Better game” with big air quotes. What you like more, makes more sense.

Empathy has no value when it comes to killing a franchise loved by thousands.

Eonjay116d ago

Empathy always has value when dealing with other human beings. This includes empathy towards the fans who feel scorned and the devs who worked their asses off.

Anthem Sold A Solid 5 Million Copies In Its Lifetime

The multiplayer action RPG shipped a whopping 2 million copies in its first week alone.

JEECE544d ago

A nice piece of proof-as if anymore was needed-that a game isn't automatically a success if it sells "millions of copies."

RiseNShine544d ago

I don't know if it's still possible, but if it still works, PLAY IT. It's a fantastic RPG on it's own, incredible graphics and story, well worth the Bioware name, i don't know how bad it was on release, but when i played years later it was a great single player RPG well worth playing.

ChasterMies544d ago

This a good example of why you should be hesitant to buy a game at launch.

--Onilink--543d ago

Its has been on sale multiple times for like $2-3… and even when not that aggressively dropped, it is usually in the under $10 category of any sale

BlackCountryBob544d ago

That’s good, but also worth pointing out that after maybe 3 months on sale, this game was selling for about a tenner. Reminds me a bit of Days Gone, good sales overall but only after huge discounts so unlikely to make large profit

What a shitty f***** list! Most of the games on it were great fun. Bullshit list.

chantii_mmohaven887d ago

yep this is truly a b*tthurt list :/

MadLad886d ago

I think the only one I agreed on was Anthem, and even that isn't horrendous.

Knushwood Butt887d ago

Anthem; I'd forgotten that game existed. I remember thinking the trailer was BS though; turns out I was right.

Cueil886d ago

the game wasn't bad though

RavenWolfx886d ago

"Worst big budget games" and immediately lists Genshin Impact, a game that has $4 billion in revenue.

blackblades886d ago

$3 billion and counting along with alot of users. I disagree with that being on the list. This list is just a person opinion without merit

monkey602886d ago

I havent played Genshin Impact and Mafia 3 was alright. The rest though I kind of agree with.
I loved the 1st Kane and Lynch and I could not understand how the 2nd game was as bad as it was.
