Final Fantasy XIV's Director Says There's Still So Much More To Do

Kotaku: "Naoki Yoshida just wouldn’t stop looking at his computer. The beloved producer, credited with transforming Final Fantasy XIV from disaster to dream MMORPG, kept typing and clicking as I spoke to him last week in a private room at E3, frowning occasionally. So I asked what he was looking at."

As example, true game cross play platforms not just some old indies. This game was always true subject about cross with xbox, but MS always refuse it unless special and exclusives servers for them.

You mean, more than just reskinning the same old crap over and over with bigger numbers? Who would've thought?

Insert x tomes to collect here, while running the same 2 "expert level" dungeons until, your face falls off from boredom.

Fight more mundane primal fights that take a whopping 3 or 4 minutes to master, until your face falls off from boredom.

Fight the same mindless "raid" fights that take an equally whopping 3 or 4 minutes to master, until your face falls off from boredom.

Wait for next expansion pack to do it all over again, with bigger numbers, and more "new jobs" that are pathetically shallow and "balanced", that you wonder why they would even waste time creating them.

Modern day FF. What a pathetic pile of trash.

I haven't played FFXIV since before Heavensward, and I think this is somewhat valid criticism, but I think it misses a few things. Expansions come with new story which is pretty good for an MMO, and even before I stopped playing it seemed to me that having a big, decked-out crib was the real end-game.

HW sucked but SB is really good

It's clearly lower budget than say FF15 but from a story perspective, it's the best FF game that many fans will never play. ARR wasn't overly great tbh but both Heavensward and Stormblood have great stories. Being an MMORPG, it means it's a constantly ongoing narrative and watching the characters develop over the events of over 200 hours worth of story is one of the biggest gaming highlights for me in recent memory.

Hopefully if this comes to Xbox and Switch it will have crossplay with each other like the dev wants. Would be cool to see crossplay between Xbox/Switch and the PC for a game like this.

TeamIcoFan2499d ago

Don't say that too loud, lest ye upset the fanbrats who are repulsed by the idea that it could come to other consoles. :o
Me personally, I'd go out and buy a Switch just for a portable version of FF14.

SE, Nintendo, make it happen!

GameBoyColor2499d ago

I'm just gunna say that ffxiv isn't on xbox because MS keeps rejecting YoshiP's terms since the 360 and still are as we always here from YoshiP going to talk things over with MS reps but still getting nowhere to this day.

Nintendo definitely seems like it's in a better position to accept the terms right now and I would triple dip for it on switch.

InKnight7s2499d ago

What crossplay? Sony doing this since last gen till nkw with PC and MS refusing it like forever. Switch is nice idea but it is nearly impossible because switch is barely better than ps3 in specs and ps3 version stopped being supported with stormblood because its holding real tech developments for this game.

TeamIcoFan2499d ago

Uh, no.
The PS3's biggest problem was its RAM, 512 mb in total, but split in two.
The Switch has 4 gigs of unified ram, plus it has a quad core cpu and a gpu that's closer to the xbox 1 than the PS3.
It's not unrealistic that the switch could run this game in 720p while in mobile mode and 900p docked.

first emulation, now this
even though I don't play Garry's Mod, it is still bad

Inverno1d 20h ago

I was reading it's all just false reports from a troll who's done things like this in the past and not Nintendo themselves.

-Foxtrot1d 11h ago

Well the games creator Gary Newman confirmed it himself on Twitter.

Inverno1d 4h ago

Seems that's still being debated.
