Final Fantasy XV: Square Looks to Reinvent the RPG - IGN

IGN: Final Fantasy XV reinvents the lauded Square RPG again. Check out our impressions after playing the first four chapters.

Maybe this will be the FF we've been waiting for , aside from the emo boy band that is. Still, if it's fun and has a good story then it's all good.

Snookies122755d ago (Edited 2755d ago )

How exactly are they emo? Because of their hair? Their clothing? Their personalities? They're all different in terms of personality, you can change their clothes, and FF has always had crazy hairstyles. (These hair styles are pretty tame in comparison, lol.)

vikingland12755d ago (Edited 2755d ago )

Yes, they look emo because of their hair and clothing. I agree FF has always had crazy hair styles....and clothing that's part of the charm. Like I said "It's all good". I'm hoping this is going to be a classic.

@Eamon
ha evidently I don't.

Eamon2755d ago

viking, I don't think emo means what you think it means....

kingdomtriggers2755d ago

Emo....You do realize the main character is a dork who enjoys saying puns right? They're not edgy or emo at all.

PhoenixUp2754d ago

I'd say FFXV reinvents the Final Fantasy franchise more than it reinvents the RPG genre as a whole.

GrimmyReaper2754d ago (Edited 2754d ago )

I really hope so cause all of the demo's have been utter shit IMO

Low frame rate that tends to go to 20fps, no anti aliasing which makes the game look incredibly pixelated, poor textures, poor lighting, driving controls were just odd in the Platinum Demo, models were something of last gen, lots and lots and lots of running and loading times of up to 2-3min.

People will probably say I'm a hater, but when all 4 demo's that I played had these problems. Yeah, ofcourse I get skeptical.

Nara_shikamaru2754d ago

Okay, i only have two problems with your comment: lighting and frame rate...lighting is not poor, far from it, its rather realistic actually, other games sugar coat it with all these unrealistic glares and atmospheric effects, secondly the frame rate, i agree with you is definately an issue, however, alot of other consoles games have the same frame rate issues, some even worse, and bear in mind, those games hardly compare to this game in scale etc,

GrimmyReaper2754d ago

I found the lighting to be very .. simple. The only nice thing was when I ran through forests and such other foliage heavy area's. My biggest problem is the fact that the frames dip so hard when everything looks so bad. People are talking about how great it looks and runs and Final Fantasy usually sets a standard. Fine, it doesn't look nearly as good as advertised, can it then at LEAST stay at 30? All demo's I played couldn't even keep up with 27 frames and yes! It matters!

Not only is it unappealing, it can outright fuck you over in battles and responsiveness. It just feels sluggish. And again, I noticed that in all 4 demo's I played, one was only a month ago.

NoctisPendragon2754d ago (Edited 2754d ago )

0 previews talked about framerate dips , some of them even pointed out that it was rock solid (even in huge battles) so you shouldn't worry about that for the 1st 15 hours of the game .

The Plat demo wasn't a seamless OW like the actual game so that's why you had load screens .

As for the lighting i personally found it fantastic and it got often praised .
Very few RPG /OW game come close to P.D's lighting from a pure technical standpoint : https://forum.finalfantasyx... .

Glad that I absolutely can't stand subscription services.

Petebloodyonion19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

SonyStyled19d ago

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?

Final Fantasy XV Review – A Royal Road Trip

Gary Green said: With my fondness for (most) Final Fantasy games and my side goal of finishing off games in my collection with loose ends, a return to Final Fantasy XV seemed inevitable. It also serves as my third Final Fantasy platinum trophy after VII and VIII, a reasonable substitute since Final Fantasy IX is nigh on impossible to master.

Final Fantasy 15 director reveals why he left Square Enix, and announces he's working on 2 new JRPGs

Final Fantasy 15's director has revealed why he left Square Enix back in 2018.

Hajime Tabata famously resigned from Square Enix two years after Final Fantasy 15 shipped in 2016. In a special livestream at the time, Tabata announced his decision to resign from the company, cancelling three of four new story-focused DLC episodes for Final Fantasy 15 in the process.

FF15 is like FF13 its subjective people either like it or hate it.

raWfodog151d ago

I liked it. I haven’t played the royale edition yet but I’ll get around to it one day.

gold_drake150d ago

no no, 15 wasnt trash.

15 had a tremendous difficult development.

FinalFantasyFanatic149d ago

I really believe 13 was better put together and more complete than 15 ever was.

EternalTitan150d ago

Found the pathetic troll.
How is your jobless life going?
Dot worry, you will never get a job or a girlfriend haha!

Hofstaderman151d ago

Man inherited a train wreck and was expected to release this game in under two years after it spent a better part of a decade in development hell. At one point there was even plans to make FFXIII Versus a musical. He did what he could.

TheColbertinator150d ago

I didn't care much for XV and I always wanted the original vision of Versus XIII but I think the dev team did what they could to salvage the project

Inverno150d ago

And yet people still blame him for the game turning out the way it did, rather than SE for the horrible mismanagement of 13 and Namura for being overly ambitious.

Dwarrior151d ago

Whatever the behind-the-scenes went on over the many years, at the end of the day it was a radical change in direction that I could not go along with. Also why I never bought 16.

gold_drake150d ago

this is also why Sakaguchi (spelling) left.
