Josh Griffiths writes: "When I first wrote about Ghost Theory about three weeks ago, I was amazed at how unique and charming the game looked. Most first person horror games these days are still cashing in on Slenderman and Amnesia, with the occasional Five Nights at Freddy’s rip-off. None of them have a quarter of the originality or heart that Ghost Theory has behind it.
Despite this, Ghost Theory’s Kickstarter is failing. With roughly $120,000 to collect in eight days after getting just over of $22,000 in three weeks, the writing is on the wall. Kicktraq is estimating it’ll only reach 20% of its goal."
VRFocus spoke with developer Dreadlock Inc on their title that lets you experience real life haunted locations.
Word of Dreadlocks’ investigative horror title Ghost Theory has been few and far between for some time now, but today, the developer shared a large update on the game and its progress to its Kickstarter backers.
I hope this turns out better than the latest Homefront game, cause that ran like garbage on cry-engine
Seems to me like switching to CryEngine at this time is a bad move. Crytek is in a weird financial situation and the future of the engine is uncertain. And UE4 is just a better choice if they're looking for a graphics powerhouse. It's a much more feature-rich engine
Plus.... Unity games can look way better than that demo. Both Unity and UE4 are great choices
Ehh they should've stayed with Unity, it's alot more diverse and open than CryEngine. Also, Unity has alot of developers support. By that i mean add-ons, plugins, it's open source. I think this was a bad move. Actually I think most devs should give Unity a try. It's astounding.
edit then they switch to cry engine and not even use it for the graphics, i don't see why they should've switched especially with crytek damn near going bankrupt.
edit 2: and on top of everything Unity supports VR easier to port your game to VR using Unity. I don't even think Crytek has a VR element in the Engine, i'll look into it when I get home.
Surprised they didn't use Lumberyard as it's the same thing but surely Amazon offer more long term stability than Crytek.
Serena Nelson writes: "Frankly, the number of messages I've received have been a bit of a turn-off. I have yet to create an account, and I generally refuse to do so just for one thing. Also, receiving five messages about the funding since the announcement has been a bit of an annoyance."
Seems like a cool enough game, but it just doesn't strike me as particularly unique.
Well seeing as most kickstarters aren't trust worthy I think people are just being cautious and would like to see the stripper and booze to development resources their money is going toward.
Market is saturated with 1st person Survival Horror.
