Infamous Second Son Review | IGN

Open-world superhero action games are about freedom and empowerment, and in these regards, Second Son is really impressive. Seattle is a big, beautiful playground for you to stomp around in with a set of devilishly fun and powerful toys at your disposal. It plays great, and it looks even better, but its advancements also beg it to be held to a higher standard, one that its overall story and morality systems struggle to reach

Where are these same standards with exclusive games that run on other formats?

Yet some use reviews as the gospel / fuel for flame in the nonsensical console wars. The gaming media hasn't been relevant for years and it's reasoning, or lack there of, like this as to why.

8.7 is a great overall rating but it's sad how nit picky most Sony exclusives appear to receive from the lame brain attention seeking gaming media. Oh they throw the occasional bones but to what games? Games that are mind boggling amazing like Uncharted and TLOU. Or games like LBP that has no genre competition on other formats. This is why I educate myself and get opinions from gamers I personally know instead of relying on the cesspool that is the gaming media.

I loved the previous installments of Infamous and I'm sure I will Second Son as well.

i really enjoyed the first 2. My son especially liked the 2nd one and keeps playing it every saturday to earn more trophies.

IGN has held PlayStation titles to a higher standard for a LONG time now. It's just the way it is.

I still watch their PS reviews, but I take everything they say with a grain of salt.

Can't wait to play this game when I get home from work tomorrow.

8.7 sounds about right. A good score for a sequel on a new console. Not anything spectacular but a solid score. Will definitely check it out on my PS4.

i got it on saturday thru ebay. im like 68 percent complete. and i would give it about an 8.5 also.

my biggest complaint which it seems like it is in all these open world games is not enough variety in side missions.

but overall im really enjoying the game. and i think anyone who got it will be in for a good time.

IMO beyond the sense of exploration which is obviously the main attraction in sand box style games the similarities end there. In Infamous you have a super powered hero able to traverse the environment in a very unconventional ways whereas in GTA you have the typical gangster hero who steals cars and planes and wrecks havoc during his mood swings.

In the end one is a 200 milion game and the other barely half..

Well enough talk need to play some more Titanfall before my PS4/infamous bundle arrives!

Sorry if we don't see eye to eye about bots in a competitve FPS Septic, even with the online story mode I don't consider that aspect of the game a high standard.....its not what I get excited for regardless the console or PC

Its already difficult to get excited for FPS games at all IMO....but that's ME

Co-Op and SP games are what NPCs are for....for ME anyway

But by all means enjoy Titanfall....its not for ME

Titanfall is awesome for it's gameplay but it's not a real next gen game , Both are a must buy but titanfall doesn't deserve that higher score then Second son. Rewarding last gen stuff will only make developers get more lazy.

I don't see how these reviews work , they are sooooo random. They are reviewing Second son and titanfall based on what ?. Their previous games ?. Or how good they are ? Or by comparing similar games ?. I really can't see how they work. There are no standards .

Neither Colin or Gregg reviewed it since they are the biggest fans if Infamous at IGN... So they had someone less likely to influence the score due to fan attachment to score it objectively! I wish I didn't watch the video review because it spoiled some of the powers!

Gotta say though! 4 power sets is astounding... I can't wait to see the variations and upgrades with the new skill tree upgrades for this.

i probably got at least 17 hours into it. but i am doing everything possible and not trying to speed through at all. and im only 68 percent done with one playthrough. now there is rumors that the day one patch will add another 5 hours.

im sure if i didnt do side missions and spend time enjoying the scenery though it could be beat in the 12 hour range.

I usually agree with ign, gamespot, and game informer when it comes to score. Every game I liked and every one I thought was just OK received proper scores from those sites imo. So its good to see it averaging an 8.4 ish score between those sites. Can't wait to pick this up tomorrow! Seems like the story may struggle a bit, but it's a blast to play, still sounds like a winner to me.

Very fair score. I was very disappointed by the lack of side quests that would allow you to interact with other conduits and citizens of Seattle. I was even more disappointed by the last power. You get it literally when you beat the game. These two things make me want to dislike the game, but I can't stop loving it.

Pretty much what I expected. 8.5-9. It'll never receive a 10 due to it being Infamous. I never understood the grief that reviewers gave the series. They would praise it, and then at the end, an 8.5. I guess you have to shovel out the hype and marketing money in order to crack that 9.0 ceiling.

What really baffles me is the crap they are giving it over it's story. At least it has a story...unlike another title released here recently.

The reviewer even said in the review that they're holding infamous to a higher standard and judging it accordingly. That's stupid. There is only one standard, if every game was judged based on different standards then a general scoring system would not work. For example, Infamous and Titanfall should NOT be getting the same score if Infamous is superior, but is judged with "higher standards". And before fanboys get offended, that was just an example.

I dont understand why infamous out of all games is "held to a higher standard"... Why can cod slap a few new guns and rehashed maps togethor and call it a sequel, while still getting good scores? Why did titanfall get a 8.9 even though its missing a single player experience, is severly lacking in content, and has a horribly forgettable online story? I dont get it.
