Why you should look forward to Elder Scrolls Online

The Elder Scrolls franchise stands among the most venerated game series ever. For almost twenty years, the various games have offered players tremendous roleplaying experiences. When Bethesda announced Elder Scrolls Online, fans wondered if the magic of the single-player games would be captured. Since then, MMO-Play kept abreast of the developments of this mmorpg and this is why you should be looking forward to Elder Scrolls Online.

You make good points, but there is the one glaring counter point. Subscription fee. Most people I know ( and judging from what I read on the net) won't pay a subscription fee to play ESO. That right there will have a knock-on effect on the future and sustainability of the game.

And all that for the generous price of $240 for the first year and $180 for every year after that plus micro transactions. I DON'T THINK SO. What s shame, I was so looking forward to this game. I'm willing to pay $60 a year pass for everything expansions and micro transactions . No more than that.

The game sounds good but the price is ridiculous. $60 for the game and then $15 for every month after that plus an in game micro transaction store? Lets just be real here that comes to $240. That is literally the price of 4 games. Actually I've pre order both AC4 black flag limited edition plus watch dogs limited edition. That would pay off both of those games.

The price is just too ridiculous to justify that price point.

I would be looking forward to ESO, but they ruined it with subscription talk. Call me when it goes Free to Play, which it will within two years if not sooner.

Look, I love the elder scrolls franchise and all of its games, but...the sub fee on top of the normal retail price is just asking too much.

I'm not made of money. But I'm sure there are plenty of other people who can pay for it.

I'll gladly pay the subscription fee. At least that way it's a guaranteed level playing field. I've seen so many "free" MMO's become Pay 2 Win.

Also, this is Elder Scrolls we're talking about. If it were some up-and-coming company throwing out a title nobody had ever heard of, then the sub would be a stupid idea. As it is, there are plenty of Elder Scrolls fans (like me) that would be more than happy to pay the asking price.

It's not made by Bethesda, it's made by Zenimax Online Studios. The problem comes in that there's both the buying price ($60) and the sub fee ($15/month), making it rather expensive to play for any decent sized period of time, which MMOs usually are. That's $240 to play this for a year.

I'm going to spend the money on games anyway. So why not pay for just ONE game that will keep me busy for years on end? I'm a heavy MMO player, and besides ESO, I'm also looking forward to Wildstar, which will have both a subscription plan, and a FTP plan.
Of course, I'll go full sub.

@Jyndal . I don't fault you for being such a big fan that they can ask any price and you will pay. Many fans do that kind of thing (Sports, music, comedy...); why not games?

But I can also say this: if they carge subscription fees, they really did not make it for people like me, who are also huge fans of the series. They are making this for MMO fans like people from War Craft.

Everyone is being way to harsh about the subscription fee. A fee which helps the games servers. When has a free mmo been amazing....never. Now why aren't you people crying about FF14aar being a sub based game...oh right hypocrites.

I'll give this game a shot. Looks like TES, plays like TES, and is completely open something that hasn't been done since the second game. I've been playing since before most players so I'll give it a shot. If I end up not liking it, oh well not the first mmo I haven't liked (WoW, FF11, SWTOR...because friends never got into it so I grew bored alone)

Ehh Subscription fee is one thing, then there's micro transactions which is a totally different thing. They throw everything they can into this game to eat their costumers alive, i don't think people are to harsh on the game when it's that expensive.

I've come around on subscriptions and can see their merit but having an MT store as well is where I have a problem.

In F2P I expect to have a limited "bank" inventory which I should pay to upgrade, but not when I am subscribing. (that's only an example, but they did say they would charge for extra "services".)
