Killer Instinct's Killer Kinect Integration

During Evo 2013 there was a Killer Instinct panel where the developers had a chance to talk about the game, its features, and more. Included in the "more" category was a discussion about how the game will function with Xbox One's Kinect.

Kanzes4356d ago

Actually I'm not too excited about the new Kinect, but it seems more and more games are getting cool Kinect features

JokesOnYou4356d ago (Edited 4356d ago )

So you're not excited about the new kinect but you admit more and more games are getting cool kinect features?

Well as I've said before this is the benefit of having it standard vs an add on. I think alot of what you think about kinect is based on the past kids games, which I understand but I'm liking the approach micro is taking now, still going to offer total full kinect games for casuals but finally they are starting to expand the experience in ways that enhance core controller based games.

Kanzes4356d ago (Edited 4356d ago )

What I'm trying to say is I'm not really interested, but I'm not hating it. I only see Kinect as a bonus feature for Xbox One.

SuperLupe4356d ago

Yep man, not a fan of Kinect but a lot of things shown so far from Kinect 2.0 have been pretty impressive.

I like the direction MS are going with it i.e forget trying to make it a "controller" by itself but just use it in intelligent ways to enhance the experience.

I think they understood that Kinect alone will never match 100% with core games hence making a game like Ryse Kinect only too a full fledged AAA core game.

Now they just have to explain and demonstrate properly and clearly what Kinect 2.0 is all about so that the customer understands the added value. Unfortunately lately that is easier said than done when its MS you're talking about.

Wackaflocka20134356d ago

I like how capcom is using kinect features in DR3 also.

JokesOnYou4356d ago

hmmm, so you're playing a tournament with friends as you pass around the controller kinect automatically recognizes each player and reconfigures the button setup for each player....damm thats pretty cool.

mcstorm4356d ago

I agree that is cool. I know Kinect gets a lot of flack on here but I do see Kinect 2 being a massive step up from the 1st and being used in lots of different ways as the console is make with Kinect not as an add on. I can't wait to get an Xbox one and little things like this will help make it better.

Kanzes4356d ago

Kinect+cloud is a good combo to make more 3rd party games "better on xbox one"

Stryfeno24356d ago

This could be what separates the Xbox from other consoles.

Grindlefly4356d ago

in a totally non flaming sense although that sounds cool Im not sure I like the idea of the kinect recognizing the players - a bit creepy i think.
One of my dodgy mates comes round and kinect recognizes him and calls the police lol

Am liking the direction ms are looking at though instead of only gestures etc. Good stuff and some pretty insane things will come out of it im sure

kickerz4356d ago

Very cool feature. Looking forward to the new kinect. Glad I pre ordered my day one edition :)

I hope developers add cool voice features to all the sports titles

Thomper4356d ago

As I've said before...

I hope K2 delivers what K1hinted at.

Killer instinct (3) is looking awesome. If it can incorporate kinect then bring it on.

I am happy to sit in my pants (underwear for My American brothers & sisters) feel free to report me. Bothered? Not much!

I can't fracking wait to play this game. Everything else on XB1and pS4 can wait....

GameCents4356d ago

Very convenient. I'm not going to call it revolutionary like others do about a button but it is very convenient that it changes button configuration on the fly like that depending on the user.
Selecting my favourite character on the other hand. . .okay I suppose.

I too am pleased Kinect is being subtly integrated into every game. Glad MS have wised up to the fact that core gamers love controllers and if Kinect can work well with a controller then I'm all for it.

Killer Instinct is like the forgotten cousin at the fighting game family reunion.

yeah they were such good and fun games but they never really reached the mainstream audience. Killer Instinct was widely known and respected.

Cacabunga60d ago

Killer instinct is great, especially on snes but it’s not the most underrated fighter.. for me it’s Power Stone. So much potential in this series

Jawsh66661d ago

Bloody Roar was a game that had a sick concept but wasn’t made the best. I’d say Killer Instinct was the opposite of that, it was well made but the roster of characters were so similar to every other fighting game in that era that it ended up feeling like more of the same. I could be wrong that’s just how I remember it at the time and I played a ton of KI on SNES because it was one of the first games I owned.

PRIMORDUS61d ago

I loved this game in the arcade, my main was Jago, Ultra Combo!!! https://www.youtube.com/wat...

DivineHand12559d ago

That combo was way overkill 😂

PRIMORDUS59d ago

I know haha, I loved Jago.

Bathyj61d ago

You're kidding?
It enjoyed probably more success than it deserved.
Unlike Tobal 2

MeteorPanda60d ago

Tobal 2 was awesome. Sold really well cause art similarity to dragon ball

jjb198160d ago

I remember trying my hardest to learn that "Ultra... Ultra.... Ultra...." finish. Such a great fighting game.

Popsicle60d ago (Edited 60d ago )

I can tell you definitely got some SNES time in. The slight differences in the ports due to hardware constraints were interesting. For example, the arcade version was Ultraaaa Coooommboooooooo! versus Ultra….Ultra….Ultra on the SNES.

Though SNES overachieved as a port for as demanding as a game KI was.The arcade version was one of the first cabinets with a dedicated hard drive and the SNES version was 32 megabyte cartridge which was huge for that system at the time.

jjb198159d ago

Yeah, for sure. My local childhood arcade was always packed and it was hard to get a game in but once the SNES version came out, I was hooked. I can still feel the click of the power button.

Barlos569d ago

I'll have to get this! Been a big fan of KI since the very first one.

Petebloodyonion569d ago (Edited 569d ago )

I love KI (still play the old arcade version) but feel like the Xbox version is like a big intimidating chessboard with no easy way to instruct you to play chess.
The game is so deep in terms of little things to do that it makes Smash Bros melee look like a casual experience.
Honestly, doing a combo Breaker is punish/reward by itself but hey you can add a counterbreaker.
Here's what you also need to know
Breaking Shadow-linker
Instincts
Shadow counter
Auto double,
linker, manual
ender
etc,

There isn't going to be any chance of this being played at tournaments unless it appears on all platforms like all fighting games.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH573d ago

SF5 didn’t appear on all consoles and was still played at Tournaments. I’ve seen KI tournaments recently so I don’t think your opinion is accurate.
