Garvaos from Plus XP writes "Last week publisher THQ sadly went into bankruptcy and as a result we saw auction of the publishers most loved franchises. Other game companies such as Ubisoft and SEGA now own the rights to games such as Company of Heroes 2, Metro: Last Light and South Park: The Stick of Truth. Unfortunately though not all of the franchises were sold , meaning that some of THQ’ games now are at risk of being shut down altogether. One of the franchises yet to find a buyer is the fantasy third person action game Darksiders.
As the Darksiders wasn’t picked up by anyone at the THQ auction, the future of the franchise was starting to look bleak. A day or so after the auction however, Platinum games reached out to THQ staff over Twitter stating that they would be interested in buying the Darksiders franchise ‘for cheap’. Could Platinum games be the saviour that Darksiders has been looking for? If so then here are 5 things that I think Platinum could bring to the Darksiders..."
In a wide-ranging interview with IGN, game developer legend Hideki Kamiya reveals why he left Bayonetta maker PlatinumGames and what's next.
Long shot here but with him out of the picture... MS could get PG to finish Scalebound. As it is, the project was shelved and Ms still had all the work they had done up to that point. HK's mismanagement of multiple projects is what caused MS to pull the plug, but I feel they still wanted to get it done at some point.
“My work with Platinum Games was based on a relationship of trust with the company. I decided to leave because I felt that the direction the company was heading in was different from my beliefs as a developer. Without that element of trust, I couldn’t continue working there, and so I left, so that I could continue working in what I consider to be the right way.
“I don't think of games as products, but rather as works of art. I want to put my artistry into games and deliver games that could only be made by Hideki Kamiya, so that players can enjoy Hideki Kamiya games exactly as they are. I decided to leave the company and forge my own path, to continue making games that reflect the developers who made them.”
Hideki Kamiya will be leaving PlatinumGames on October 12, 2023.
Phil better have that check ready. Hideki expertise and knowledge would be a great asset to the Xbox team and can possibly bring growth in the Asia region.
How sudden, I wonder what changed.
Maybe after the certain story choices and direction for Bayonetta 3 they can hopefully make it more like the first two games.
i've always felt platinum games lack of growth/failures can be traced back to kamiya. He seems like a very troublesome person to work with
Vice president Hideki Kamiya, director Yosuke Matsumura and producer Yuji Nakao discuss the standalone release.
The only thing I'd be worried about platinum messing up is the story/voice acting. But yea graphically darksiders has always been "meh" from a technical perspective, and it's combat, though solid, has never rivaled other high level action games like Bayonetta, DMC, or even Ninja Gaiden. Platinum could definitely beef up those aspects of the game pretty easily.
I dont care the only thing that I am sure is that I will buy it if Platinum bless this saga with their fingers.
Darksiders games were so mediocre.
IMAO
i'm not worried at all.
IMO the darksider games weren't that great to begin with.
if anything they could make it better.
Not played No 2 yet, but the first game was great. Clean up the graphics a bit (keep the style) and everything is fine.
Well, I'd like to see more fluid combat, at 60FPS on next-gen hardware. Darksiders 2 was awesome, but the open world takes its toll, which separates it from DmC, GoW, bayonetta etc. Next-gen would be most ideal. Quite frankly, to keep the open world while offering insane combat options at a fluid 60FPS, it would NEED to be next-gen.
Love the Darksiders series, but I can definitely admit it needs some fine tuning.
