PSN Appears To Be Down On PS4 With NW-31201-7 Error

The dreaded NW-31201-7 error has shown up for those signing into PS4, which means that the servers may be unavailable. This doesn’t appear to be the case on PS3, however, as users are able to sign in there.

The amount of downtime and service interruptions that the PSN and Xbox Live have had this past year is utterly ridiculous and inexcusable. These companies insist that people pay a monthly fee to play games online, but neither of them can run a stable service. It's absurd and it saddens me that people will happily accept it and keep handing over money.

I promise you it will happen and I mentioned it before. Its what happened to 360 xmas 2007. Tons of new owners playing COD and halo 3 with us previous owners. I couldnt log on to play COD on xmas day but at night it worked fine.

With ps4 being the most popular console its for sure going to have tons of new owners on xmas this year, I hope they beef up their servers before then. I dont think sony is the type to anticipate such huge success in regards to servers for GAMING, not streaming. It just seems like they wait till there's a problem to do something. hope im wrong about that tho.

You do know Playstation plus and internet is required to play all PS+ acquired games. So technically, those games aren't free.

It seems you are experiencing quite the conundrum. Give it a bit of time before jumping to any sort of conclusion. Let Sony fix their problems and see if it fixes yours. If the servers are down and you can't connect, there's no way for a verification packet to be received on either end.

internet is not required to play plus games as long as you are on the primary playstation. It only checks like once a month.

It's obviously just technical issues they are sorting out on the PS4 version.

Sony is doing all kinds of things to beef up the network, including purchasing openstack. I don't think Sony knew it would sell over tenmillion units this fast. I agree they need more data centers to meet the demand.

Sony rep stated this issue affect many and it's due to mine craft and them prepping the servers for Destiny... Not eta on when it'll be resolved...yes this issue affects those that are getting the " need to renew plus " error like myself... This is why Diablo 3 and TLOU are available ... PSN is down for some people, while others it's not. I'm guessing Sony's doing something on a few severs, and the people who's information is stored on these servers are being affected. Doesn't matter the game you're playing, if PSN was down, NOBODY will be playing.

The documented cases of PSN services being down are not much more than XBL's, I can't speak on your case because that's not documented. But legit PSN and XBL outages are not that different in occurrence, this year at least.

First off, Live hasn't gone down as much. Is it down today? Was it down for the same amount as PSN during the attack? Both networks were hit, one knocked out and one mildly annoying. PSN has never been as stable as Live, but it was free. The free version is still more stable than the paid version which really says alot.

Sony has sold over 10 million PS4's which is incredible, however it's not like they sold 10 million over night. Sony has had more than enough time to take note of the sales trends and make adjustments. Perhaps they should use their resources on making a stable online service instead of focusing on their pay to play rental service and VR initiative if money is tight.

Destiny beta was on both systems, took one down for hours (xbl) and was ok on the other (PSN)

Yes it does say a lot, it says this is likely just a bug and technical issue.

Both XBL and PSN were attacked by hackers, but you can't necessarily judge security by a DDOS attack, it could be likely though that XBL does have better security measures for it, which Sony may or may not want to implement. Sony is also adding more servers.

In regards to server structure and security 10 million customers this fast is over night.

I guess I i will be playing black ops 2 and Mario kart 8 then. It wouldn't be so bad if the rep wouldn't have made such a big deal to me when I bought the ps4.
