Official Xbox Magazine UK Mocks PS4 Slogan "Greatness Awaits" After Mixed Reviews

Looks like the officially endorsed press is joining the console war early, with the Twitter account of UK’s Official Xbox Magazine firing shots on the competition after some mixed reviews that hit the PS4′s launch titles. Not so classy, but the power to judge is as always in the hands of the readers.

lol, that all they got? greatness awaits.

GarrusVakarian3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

Have people suddenly forgot that consoles are with us for the best part of a decade? Gamers old enough to have seen multiple launches know that judging a consoles success from its launch games is beyond stupid.

I mean cmon people....have you just forgotten about the PS3? Selective memory for people with a personal vendetta against Sony it seems. Can't wait to see how vocal you are with your trolling when the heavy hitters come and reveal their games.

Abriael3826d ago

I actually read most of the reviews, and most of the mixed ones seem to be fruit of excessive expectations mind you.

The games are better than a lot of journos give them credit for.

ThunderSpark3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

I can definitely see all the haters coming from under their bridges. They're looking for bad reviews so they can vent because of all the bad news the Xbox has being getting.

I can see may angry XBox One fans running through the forums disagreeing with anything pro Sony. But tomorrow night is PS4 day, when me and 34 of my friends are going to be on a line at midnight to pick up our new PS4s.

xHeavYx3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

I think anyone is in the position to mock except MS.
I'm sure they'll be happy when Polygon and Sessler rate Ryse and Forza 9/10. Dead Rising will be getting at 8.5

sincitysir13826d ago

U shouldn't talk crap til ur reviews are out. Ps4 gamers are on the defense but Xbox gamers forget that their reviews are incoming. Lets all stay level headed before we feel stupid for saying ridiculous things.

kwiksilver993826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

there are more illogical fanboys than smart people.
as long as people get riled up about review scores ,bash other people's choices because it's different etc and are free to communicate their opinion's over the freedom that the internet provides,i really dont see much change happening.
2 sides fighting to and fro with the occasional pop up of the pc representative.
it just seems to go on and on and on.sigh

Rainstorm813826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

Apparently.....Now its about what games launch in he first 2 months that defines a system for a life time....**FACEPALM**

I've had both the Xbox and 360 at launch and after those two generations I see a recurring theme....MS drops support of their consoles in the last 2-3 years, Sony doesnt...that coupled with the entire Xbone fiasco is very telling for what to expect.

@whathappened

Damn that's a lot of friends getting the 4.... I have about 6 friends getting it I thought that was a lot....you guys are about to take down half a stores stock lol

GarrusVakarian3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

@Rainstorm

Exactly, but as i said, people have selective memories and only like to remember things that work best with their biased argument/viewpoint. PS3 had no launch games......now look at it, MS abandoned the 360 for kinect, the 360 has been bone dry for exclusives since 2010....but of course nobody mentions that.

Thehyph3826d ago

Off topic, but:

None of the Resogun reviews have any temperature on here.

I'm still confident in my belief that it will have the highest aggregate score of any exclusive launch title come December.

That game is, truly, a video game in the 'classical' sense, but it still takes full advantage of a video game console launching late 2013.

ThePope3826d ago

@abriael Oh you've played and beat them all? Sweet! how did you manage that!?!

Godmars2903826d ago

MS: "Its a sprint not a marathon."

Pogmathoin3826d ago

This is a bit much. No wonder the games industry is seen as the little juvenile kid in the whole entertainment industry. All parties have been guilty of it. And all of us too at some stage. I know you all see me as always sticking up for X1, but I have never knocked PS4, looking forward to getting it on Friday, and next week the X1... Both MS and Sony have spurred each other on in producing great stuff. 360 did enough to make Sony step up with PS4. X1 has features too that will take us all forward. Ourselves, we bicker over pointless crap.... time to enjoy next gen and leave behind the BS... happy gaming all....

I remember every consoles launch (even the Atari, yes I am that old), what I can never fathom is the loyalty to one particular console/company that seems to completely overtake any discussion regarding consoles nowadays.

isa_scout3826d ago

Yeah, the PS3 started out the same way as far as exclusives at launch, and we all see how that turned out. The big difference this time is Sony doesn't have to worry about a low install base due to a high price of entry meaning they can focus all ttheir attention on bringing awesome exclusives out sooner.
I'm fine with only a few exclusives at launch because we have the Destiny beta to look forward to in January and Infamous in February so we wont be waiting long before we dive headfirst into amazing games.
Sony releases amazing exclusive after amazing exclusive so having good games to play is the least of my worries. Tomorrow night can't come soon enough.

THE-COMMANDER3826d ago

I totally agree with you, judging a console from its launch title is so stupid, and when it comes from "Official Xbox Magazine" this is just pathetic.

darthv723826d ago

"judging a consoles success from its launch games is beyond stupid"

Man I wish more people would take this to heart for a platform like the wii-u. If you can get passed the initial launch and really get your hands on one, you would find it is quite enjoyable.

some of the best games for it have yet to be released. And i know this is about the PS4 but even the wii-u needs a bit of respect for being on the market with these bigger platforms.

4Sh0w3826d ago

Wait so now after months of Sony fan boys piling on X for every nitpicking reason and now ps4 sort of underperformed it's xbox fans who shouldn't laugh and call shots, for the record I don't see too many xbox fans doing that but let's not forget if they did it would just be a situation of serving p's fan boys some humble pie.

Nintenja3826d ago

I remember a lot fo things Sony says and I also remember what they end up doing. They are as bad as politicians.

i.e. controller touchscreen. It was all hype to make it look like they had something innovative. Then in typical Sony fashion the nix it.

That is why I by MS. Sony talks a lot and then fails to back it up.

SilentNegotiator3826d ago

OXM is afraid that Xbox One won't have the same popularity/market share as 360, and then they will lose a lot of readership/ads. And rightfully so.

Bigpappy3826d ago

I think it was just XBM giving their readers a little humor. There did not insult the PS4 like that guy did yesterday when talking about COD. He referred to the X1 as the Xbone. That is fine for people in forums to do that, but a reviewer has to at lease give the impression of being even handed. From the second he use that term, it is time to stop reading.

Death3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

Haven't PS fans been declaring the console war over for the past couple weeks since some of the PS4 launch games are higher resolution than their Xbox One counter parts? How is it last week the launch titles were the definitive proof of the PS4's superiority and now after the first batch or reviews launch titles mean nothing?

So whats the deal? PS4 launch titles mean nothing and Xbox One launch titles are proof that the system is worthless?

Let's all take a step back and admit that both consoles launch titles aren't necessarily indicitive of the consoles long term success. Games will get better on both platforms. As far as launch titles go, it really looks like both systems have some of the best launch games we have seen in a very long time. Way too much emphisis has been on proving one console is better than the other. Both have something to offer and at the end of the day we need to decide which fits our wants and needs most if we are only choosing one system.

dmeador3826d ago

I hate when any company talks crap in any sort of passive aggressive way. Makes me lose respect for them. The only time I liked it was the new surface commercials making fun of iPads, just because Apple had an entire ad campaign picking at pcs

GameSpawn3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

I'm happy with the game selection starting out for the PS4. Frankly, I'm glad the heavy hitters are more spread out anyways. This is better for ANY console (to an extent).

Think about it. If there were 10 major games (and I mean every type of gamer would want to own and buy) you'd have 10 games to divide your attention between. For some people this isn't a problem, but I'd like to imagine for a majority of people this would be sensory overload.

On the other hand, I think it's equally as bad to spread your must have games too thin then people finish them too early before the next game hits and they get stuck in a drought until the next big release possibly killing any motivation said person had for the games in the first place. This is how Nintendo has personally been for me since the GameCube; the games I have had LOADs of interest in are spread so far apart that my motivation for playing the console and its games dies a little.

There needs to be a happy balance of game releases through the year to keep gamers busy with what is coming out, but also to keep them starving with anticipation for just a little more.

Karpetburnz3826d ago

agree, Xbox fanboys seem to be making a huge deal over the review scores of Knack and Killzone, but seem to forget that these consoles will be around for the next decade. where were these same fanboys when the 360 was dead for the last 3-4 years?

people are idiots to judge how good a console is from its launch line-up, exclusives only make up like 5-10% of the consoles library, the rest are multiplats, so PS gamers will still have plenty of games to play, I dont know why some people think that its only the exclusives that matter.

When Naghty Dog, Sanata monica, Media molocule etc.. reveal their PS4 games, It will sure shut up those fanboys.

Goku7813825d ago

It's kool, let them laugh now, while they'll cry later. Sony just said no dry spells. MS track record has not been the same.

torchic3826d ago

the Ryse reviews will make this Xbox UK branch look pretty dumb.

creatchee3826d ago

@majiebeast

"Sony should hit back with 1080P awaits."

Knack and Killzone both run in 1080p. If anything, their reception shows that resolution and game quality are mutually exclusive.

VENOMACR12273826d ago

Not sure how much the 1080 means when your getting scores of 5/10 on IGN for Knack. You can polish up a piece of sh*t but at the end of the day, it's still a piece of sh*t. I don't mean that towards knack, im just saying in general it doesnt matter how pretty a game looks if it plays terrible and isn't fun. Would you rather have a 1080 game that is "eh" to play, or a 720 that is awesome?

GrandTheftZamboni3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

VENOMACR12273826d ago

You forget Sony's little jabs here and there. What comes around goes around. Everyone's been talking poorly about MS including Sony, so the fact that their reviews have been less than stellar is warranted. Is only Sony allowed to talk trash or throw jabs? Sony has been pounding their chest this whole time. And now that MS throws a jab, all the Sony fans are wetting themselves.

kenshiro1003826d ago

VENO when did Sony take a jab? Microsoft brought ot on themselves. If anything this is a very weak comeback.

Now they are finding out most of that stuff was just PR hype. The problem is they believe anything the gaming press throws out there. If they are upset now, just wait till they find out that xb1 is more powerful. Just watch and see. Sony has been very quiet and building up the hype and now we are seeing the actual truth.

DARK WITNESS3826d ago

to be honest I say let them have their fun...

it's not like when the xbone reviews come we wont have plenty of reason to be saying the same thing about it.

we all know that there are many more years to come for the systems to really prove their place, but right now it's all about what is offered at launch.

it's starting to feel like both systems were rushed in my opinion. I am still Glad they are launching now because I was really, really starting to get tiered of the stuff coming out for current gen, even if it just means playing the same games just nicer looking.

anyway one thing is for sure the next few weeks will be fun with all the mud throwing going on between the two camps.

let the games begin !

jessupj3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

"to be honest I say let them have their fun... "

I concur. I mean, ever since the reveal every single week there's been some bad news for MS. And it seems like for the past month every single day there's been a new negative to hear about concerning the xbone.

They've been so battered and bruised and their soul and spirit almost completely destroyed, I say let them have this.

Of course, like people have been saying, judging a console based on the less than 1% of games that will be launching on the system is extremely stupid. Sony ALWAYS delivered the games, and I see no reason why that would change for the PS4. I'm not doubting my PS4 pre-order one little bit.

MiloGarret3826d ago

But not right now, apparently.

Thatguy-3103826d ago

IDGAF lol nothing like most people that preorder the consoles will make them cancel at this point. 2 more days!

darren_poolies3826d ago

At least when Sony does this it's actually funny. that was terrible.

frostypants3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

What "bad reviews", anyway? Time just published a glowing review of the PS4, calling it a "master of all trades", and everything else I've read has been positive. Launch titles are launch titles...both systems will have great games. All I really want right out of the gate is BF4. I'm paying for hardware right now. $399 for $700 of hardware, or $499 for $350 of hardware...

GoPanthers9993826d ago

Time? I am sure the PS4 is impressive to seniors who grew up with Tiddly Winks and Jacks. This is not a valid point of reference for tech.

Lykon3826d ago

LOL the couple of dodgy reviews by MS puppets will only fuel the backlash ... The bone is going to get slaughtered.

JasonKCK3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

You know, Sony does this same thing if not more. I don't really approve of any of it, but there are two sides to this coin. On this site it seems to be alright if Sony does it but not the other way around. If Sony fans get angry at MS for this, they only need to look in the mirror.

Lykon3826d ago

yeah true ... mind you ... 7 years ago sony fans were not even the underdog .. they were some poo that the underdog had stepped it. so there is something kinda sweet about the extent of MS's failings.. It has been very entertaining. Actually the tables have turned so much that we could be entering dreamcast territory where the XB one actually becomes a fondly remembered failure. It depends on the exclusives really. A lot of things could happen yet. It's very very early days. We could have hardware issues/changes to iron out yet. That is quite normal. One thing I'm definitely sure about with Sony is that their system will be supported well throughout it's life cycle. I'm not so sure that MS can do that. Hopefully they have learned not to rest on their laurels this time.

Hicken3826d ago

Actually, isn't it more like giving what you've already gotten? Sony fans have already been subjected to this, for the entirety of the past generation. Maybe you haven't been around this site long enough to know, but it used to be that MS was infallible, and Sony only made mistakes, even while all evidence pointed to the opposite being true.

Additionally, this isn't Sony. OXM, OPM, and ONM are all owned by the same company, and that company has no relation to any of the console manufacturers.

Which means this is a journalist's doing. Which displays the same lack of objectivity that Sony fans have been talking about for years. The same lack that prompts Polygon to assign someone who hates Killzone to write(or record) a review for the next game in the entry. The same lack that has the living joke known as Tom Chick as a staple on Metacritic.

I kinda get the argument you're making, but it doesn't actually count here.

JasonKCK3826d ago

^^^ the fact that you're arguing for this is as pathetic as your attempt to downplay Sony for doing the same thing. It's hypocritical.

Hicken3826d ago

IT'S. NOT MICROSOFT.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

Well, would you look at that. It's the same company that owned OPM and Nintendo Power. They MUST be run by Microsoft, right?

How can we get mad at Microsoft for something they have no part in? C'mon, man. At least do your homework.

JasonKCK3826d ago

Don't you find it just a bit hypocritical that you have a problem with this now? But when it's Sony it's "their right" or "good for them" but when it comes from the other side it's "their being childish" or they need "to grow up" You don't see it, are your blinders on that tight? It's just strange how fanboys don't have any problems until the shoe is on the other foot. Sony spent 95% of it's time at E3 doing nothing but talk about MS, but it was all good then. Now not so much.

BOLO3825d ago

Thing is...M$FT has no room to talk when it comes to negativity surrounding a console launch. By your logic an morbidly obese man can make fun of a moderately obese man and tell him to lose weight. It's nonsensical.

VENOMACR12273826d ago

Doesn't ND basically just make single player games? Uncharted has an online but lets be honest, no one buys it to play online. ND makes beautiful games but theres a reason why COD, BF, Halo, and Gears sell so well, it's the multiplayer. And now here comes Titanfall. If you like single player exclusives, PS is for you. I played all 3 Uncharted's and after I beat them, sold them. The replay value is very low. I didn't play Last of Us, but I assume it's not a heavy multiplayer game.

PS3 can continue to pump out single player exclusives. I'll take Titanfall.

GarrusVakarian3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

As far as i know UC2 +3 have great online communities, TLOU too, my friends are playing TLOU online right now and i haven't heard any complaining about empty games....They aren't marketed as MP focused games anyway so its stupid to compare them to BF and COD.

And im looking forward to Titanfall, but please don't compare it to anything ND have made or will make.

frostypants3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

Uncharted 2/3 online was awesome. It's Gears, but with far more ways to kill and hide.

trouble_bubble3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

@venomacr
Sounds like all you wanna play is the same game over and over and over again. Now its COD with mechs.

The multiplayer in uncharted and last of us were actually very well done for the kinda 3rd person online they do. Calling the replay value low is a lowball. No one stopped you from playing MAG, DCUO, warhawk, starhawk, twisted metal, dragons crown, killzone, resistance online...but you'd rather play nothing. Sounds...fun?

People like to forget inconvenient truths.

But honestly, call me a conspiracy theorist, but after some of the gaming media outlets have been downplaying the huge resolution gap so pathetically, I don't think it's a stretch to say these same outlets (IGN included) has been very harsh with their PS4 reviews and will be very lenient with their xbone reviews.

Don't be surprised if Ryse gets many glowing reviews.

solar3826d ago

There's a difference when you're Sony or Microsoft (IE you're part of the competition), and when you're *press*

Even when you're officially endorsed and licensed press, integrity would dictate to keep the jabs at bay. It's what part of being press is.

Why would one trust their reviews of Xbox games if they mock Sony's games? It casts a shadow on their ability to remain neutral.

Mind you, I would have found *nothing* wrong if the jab came from microsoft itself. They're part of the competition, and it's right for them to compete. But the press is another pair of sleeves.

Objective3826d ago

Oh really? Hope you had also so discerningly hit the disagree button on all the comments above condemning MS for this jab then.

Abriael3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

@Objective: really. When you're *part* of the competition, go ahead and jab away. It's your job, or at least part of it.

When you're press, it's not.

4Sh0w3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

Abriael well dualshockers has put out some articles I would called filled with heavy biased, although I say most of the time it's pretty balanced, still things like "oops" in the pics and editorializing comments that seem to side one way or another and you being a avid member of n4g would suggest dualshockers is biased too and this site writes news articles for both, at least this xbox site is only dedicated to xbox.

No Man's Sky Is Easily One Of Gaming's Greatest Comeback Stories

Despite No Man Sky's rocky launch, Hello Games managed to turn it into one of the best space exploration RPGs out there.

-Foxtrot5h ago

I hate the whole concept of "comeback story" because at the end of the day it doesn't remove the core issue we had in the first place, that we were lied to, it was disappointing and it launched with bare content to what was promised for years.

Any bad game can have a comeback story if it's supported enough after launch but for me if you launch in a terrible state then you had your chance. I can applaud you for what you've done after but at the end of the day there's not much of a choice since most gamers would blank your next product if you ditched your last game so fast, it's not about repairing the game but spending your time repairing gamers trust before you launch your next product otherwise it would be dead on arrival.

With these stories and the games being updated, the only way is up most of the time so of course it's going to improve the game and feel better over all, getting better and better as time passes. No Mans Sky, Sea of Thieves, Fallout 76 etc but then you have games like Anthem, Suicide Squad, Redfall and The Avengers where the devs just clearly moved on, now if they have another product people won't be as exited for it, I mean hell Guardians of the Galaxy was a great game but because of the Avengers it didn't help its sales since people were obviously still sour at that point.

I still think despite the improvements to games like No Mans Sky and Cyberpunk along with being better now overall the games are still not up there to what was promised and hyped as for years.

If we keep celebrating these “comeback stories” then unfortunately it only strongly supports the concept that these studios / publishers can continue to push half arsed broken products out for the sake of quick sales instead of waiting until they are fully finished. We need to condemn this awful behaviour or sadly we lose all voice and power as consumers.

I feel the same way about Cyberpunk 2077. I'm glad you mentioned that. I'm not a fan of comeback stories as well. But No man sky developer was a small indie team compared to CDPR. It's worse when it's coming from a AAA developer

"Any bad game can have a comeback story if it's supported enough after launch"

You make it sound so simple and easy. It's not. After release Hello Games poured countless hours into getting their game closer to what they originally wanted, without charging a penny to anyone. That's not normal.

The reason NMS and HG are held in such high esteem and calling them liars is a weak stance is the amount of work they've put into it, for free. They're not chasing a quick buck, they've dedicated their lives over the last few years to giving their fans the game everyone wanted.

They are liars though...

We are not revising history here, I'm sorry but we're not

They built this game up for years and they launched it knowing full well it wasn't up to scratch to what they originally showed off or hyped it up to be.

"They're not chasing a quick buck, they've dedicated their lives over the last few years to giving their fans the game everyone wanted"

And like I said above most of that comes from the fact that if they had just moved on straight away nobody would have supported their next game. They've washed most of that sour taste away after supporting No Mans Sky so now they are doing a new game which more people feel like they can support and get excited for.

Anyway how can you say "You make it sound so simple and easy. It's not" and then make the point that "Hello Games poured countless hours into getting their game closer to what they originally wanted, without charging a penny to anyone"

This means that if a small team like this can turn a game around then big AAA games like Suicide Squad, Redfall, Anthem and the like should have been able to do it no problem, oh but that's right they didn't want to put the time or effort into it. They can do it but some people just decide not to.

I really enjoyed it at launch and had every trophy by August 2016.

The experience I had is no longer in the game: It was just me and my ship. It was a survival game and the feeling of loneliness in the universe was pervasive. There was no way to ruin too far from your ship and, in an emergency, you grenaded a hole in the ground to survive.

I miss that aspect, but since then, I love what they've done.

I'd say it's THE definitive comeback story
