Mass Effect 3: A Poll Too Far

GamerZines writes:

Controversy and Mass Effect 3 seem to have gone hand in hand as of late and the latest complaint about the sci-fi sequel involves its multiple endings.

Now obviously we won't detail what potentially happens at the end Mass Effect 3, but we will say that the latest controversy surrounding the big budget release is absolutely bonkers!

I think that the controversy is completely justified. I personally felt it was a plot hole ridden attempt of making an emotional and artist ending gone wrong. Especially after all the choices you make over all 3 games come down to 3 very similar endings.

The endings dont make any sense. I felt insulted after the choices I make, that they're so similar...

I really need to finish this game lol

There are a few things that I disagree with/are factually wrong about this article and I need to point them out.

1. While I agree that the boss fight in ME2 was silly, the overall conclusion to it was extremely satisfying and unlike ME3, incorporated all of the player's decisions prior to the end.

2. Assassin's creed is heavily story driven. People (like myself) play Assassin's creed for the story and characters almost as much as for the varied gameplay. To lump call of duty in with Assassin's creed is very ignorant.

3. "...but if anything Mass Effect 3′s finales makes you feel hungry for more. For an experience that can last around twenty hours that’s something to be celebrated."

No...it makes the author hungry for more. When I finished ME2 I immediately dived in to play again. After beating ME3 I have no real desire to replay it. Also the game is 45 hours if you do everything. There is no way that you can beat the game in 20 hours without missing more than half of it.

4. "Do you want developers to produce sequels with stories that challenge your preconceptions, or do you want the same kind of tedium time and time again?"

This is a totally loaded question. Fans just wanted an ending that fit with the established themes of the series and that actually accounted for all of the decisions that they've made over the years. I don't see how wanting that constitutes it as being "the same kind of tedium".

I finished it almost perfectly at the 24 hour mark. I missed 2 quests though. Batarian codes and a quest to save a Quarian admiral which was cancelled after completing the Geth vs Quarian first. Also there was a planet marked out as if it had a quest on but I was never able to land on it. I also got 100% on every system.
