May's Gamepro reveals first batch of Mortal Kombat DLC characters

While the game is about three weeks away, the may issue of Gamepro magazine reveals that the first batch of DLC characters hitting the game post launch will consist of three characters: Kintaro, Lady in Red and Kenshi. Check out the scan.

Ed has said that character DLC will most likely be FREE. These characters probably wouldn't be finished in time, so NR decided to finish them later and release them for FREE.

There is nothing to worry about here. Ed has made it quite clear that they know how to actually make DLC and not unlock codes.

People seem to be agreeing with you, but I'm not (even though I didn't give you a disagree). There's absolutely nothing wrong with supporting DLC when the developers are actually putting out REAL DLC content, not 100kb unlock codes at rediculous prices for content already on the disc like Capcom always does. Not all developers are ripping people off in that way. And Mortal Kombat will be a game I absolutely buy every piece of DLC for, and do so with a smile on my face.

This isn't MvC3 where they literally locked content out of a game, and give fans basically half of a game for $60, and then pretend they're adding to the game with updates and selling you the other half of the game.

With Mortal Kombat it's plain to see that Team MK put absolutely everything into this game. There is TONS and TONS of content right on the disc. They didn't pull stuff out to milk their loyal fans later. Games have deadlines. Games are completed basically 3 or more months before release. Then months of testing in which you can't really add more content before a game goes gold, you can just fix stuff. WHile testing is going on that's when REAL DLC is being worked on. There's no way to get that stuff in the game before release. Then that stuff has to go through it's own testing.

That's the REAL DLC. And that's the real DLC gamers should support whole-heartedly.....assuming the love the game and want more content. You shouldn't act like Capcon's DLC model is representative of all dev's DLC. Because it's not fair to the real developers that put hard work in for their fans, and it's also mis-informing your fellow gamers.

Not sure where I saw him, but I know I did. I remember being excited about it because I've always liked him more than Goro and Motaro. I can guarantee you that I'm the biggest MK fan on this site, so I know the difference between him and Goro. MK was an obsession of mine for years when I was younger.

What I remember seeing wasn't an indicator that he was playable, simply that he was in the game. Not gonna go cycling through every piece of MK media I've watched since it was announced, so feel free to assume I'm lying/wrong. Makes no difference to me. I know what I saw.

When developing a game at some point you have to lock down exactly what content is shipping on the disk because you have to make sure you have enough time to get it working in the game properly.

It's especially tricky when developing a fighting game because you have to plan out the moves and strengths (and weaknesses) of each individual fighter and then make sure they're all balanced properly or close enough that there isn't insane backlash from the community on day one.

The fighters that are on the disk that ships on April 19th are ones that were more than likely locked down 6 months ago (if not longer). They are the absolute fan favorites and ones an MK game just couldn't ship without.

Once the game goes gold and ships they will begin fully working on fine-tuning these fighters for a later release.

This isn't like selling three guns for $5, they have to spend a lot of time making sure the fighters are balanced which takes time. So, they can delay the game another 2 months (or more if they need a wide open release spot) or sell completely optional fighters later.

People do not have the slightest idea how a game is developed, and bash the developers at every possibility.

Look at it this way: You're buying a finished house at $60 (K), and the contractor says they can build a pool for an additional $5 (K). You cannot complain about the pool not being included when the house is delivered, it was not on the contract at the first place.

At some point they have to stop adding stuff, and start shipping the game. And at that particular point they have lots of free developers who obviously are best utilized working on post release content (i.e.: DLC).

Go buy the game, and stop complaining...

First, he may be just a DLC boss, that is un-playable outside of the Challenge tower or other SP modes.

Playable, being a boss doesn't necessarily mean they're going to be OP in VS. Look at seth, annoying in Arcade, but VS they nerfed his health to being a mid-tier character that can't make more than 1 mistake. Seeing as how they had balance testing a priority for this game, that is probably the case.

Kintaro might be big, and have a high DMG output, but smaller faster characters could run circles around him. Especially Teleport characters.

Then again, they might (and should) give you the option of banning boss characters in your lobby. Blazblue (that wierd anime game) did this with they're "boss" characters.

Also, this means that at least Goro is playable if Kintaro is. Don't know about Khan yet, boon seems wishy washy on his statements.

The game has quite a few unlockables, 26 fighters, 20 stages, the training mode, "test your" mini games, a story mode, the challenge tower (with 300 different challenges) and the classic ladder/tag ladder mode.

This is a full game. These three DLC fighters are being worked on after the content for the retail product has been locked down. It's not like they've been showing off Kintaro ady in Red and Kenshi and are announcing you have to pay extra for them.

Additionally, this is from the May issue of GamePro which more than likely means they won't show up until after May.

i have xbox360 and PS3, I'm a gamer, not a fanboy.
