Our Top 10 List: Xbox 360 Games of 2009

Just like 2007, Microsoft has once again delivered stellar first-party titles to go along with securing lucrative third-party exclusive content to round out a great year in 2008. From Left 4 Dead to Fable 2, there are dozens of games that gamers can rejoice in and 2009 doesn't seem to differ one bit. Let's take a look at what's on the horizon for 2009's calendar year.

Its a little pointless predicting the "Ten Best Xbox 360 of 2009" because WE (as in nerd gamers) know that MS doesnt release details of upcoming games in advance.

Me? I'm looking forward to Ninja Blade, Halo Wars, Champions Online, Conan, Star Ocean 4, Forza 3, APB and Huxley.

I really hope Sakaguchi-san has Blue Dragon 2 underway for 2009.

But, there are many games we dont even know about yet. That is the way MS has *told* the press they're going to behave. That is the way they are behaving.

Good to see all the great multiplats the 360 is getting all in one. Too bad the 360 doesn't have any good exclusives next year. I will be getting COD4 part 2 because we all know Infinity Ward has a hard on for the 360 and will play better and look better on the console. Other then that, I don't see me purchasing anything else on the list besides forza.

TBH, having seen that list, the line-up for the 360 assures me for next year.

Not as much as the PS3 granted but I am much more assured now at this time this year then I was last year with their lineup, I mean:

- Forza Motorsport 3
- Halo 3: ODST
- Star Ocean: The Last Hope
- Alan Wake
- BioShock 2
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Plus, there are games on that list which I may get for the 360 then the PS3 like:

- Resident Evil 5
- Street Fighter IV

2009 is gonna be good if your a 360 owner but 2009 is gonna be great if your a multi console owner =D

I just listed 9 PS3 games for 2009, they are all exclusive, none of them are coming out on the PC, and all of them are shaping up pretty nicely. The PS3 has a damn good lineup whether you like it or not.

Unless you can name 9 Xbox 360 exclusives for 2009 that aren't coming out on the PC to match up to the games I listed, your logic is flawed.

if I was to make a list of the top 10 2009 titles for the PS3, I am sure half of them would be multi too since Street Fighter IV, COD:MW2, Resident Evil 5, Dragon Age Origins and Bioshock 2 (assuming that it's not timed exclusive for either console) would make that list regardless. No guarantees on God of War 3 and FF XIII Versus making a 2009 release, so they would be excluded. Uncharted 2, Gran Turismo 5 and Infamous would make the list, but Killzone 2 wouldn't since I didn't like what I saw at E3 and the haven't changed my mind in beta. Wardevil isn't anything special until Digiguys actually reveal something about it since this has been vaporware outside of them saying it's still on its way. If Sony can confirm Heavy Rain is a 2009 release, then add that to my list. I can almost guarantee that MAG won't make 2009, so I'll exclude that too until Sony reveals more about the title.

So... Uncharted 2, Gran Turismo 5, Heavy Rain, and add in Flower... and there you have at least 9 of my top 10 for the PS3 in 2009 and a half of them being multiplatform. If God of War 3 is in fact coming for 2009 rather than the rumored spring 2010 release that's been going around, then that would round out the list.

It's not bad to be a multiplatform game nowadays, don't forget that.

Hmmm, not overly impressed, but I'm sure MS have a few more titles hidden up their copious sleeves.

Only games I am interested in from that list are Dragon Age and Star Ocean (and has Dragon age been confirmed for a Winter 09 release on 360?).

Can't really see how any list can contain Alan Wake as a) we know nothing about it, and b) I didn't think it had a confirmed release date.

Possibly interested in Forza 3, but that depends on how good GT5 is. I really liked Forza 2 and was disappointed with GT4 and GT5P, but nothing beats GT2 and 3... So, wait and see!

All the multi-plats I'll probably pick up for PS3, especially the online stuff (like CoD). Can't see that I'd want to play SFIV with the 360's awful D-Pad. Res Evil belongs on Playstation and wouldn't feel right played with the 360 controller.

Ya, I think what we have to remember as well is that Microsoft is surely going to announce some BIG name titles over the course of the next 9 months. This list is only stuff that has been formally announced, it's only a matter of time before we hear about Mass Effect 2 and others.

What would make me happy in '09 from Microsoft...

- They announce some new and exciting IP's

- They announce sequels to established 360 exclusive IP's

What would make me unhappy in '09 from Microsoft...

- More wasted money on exclusive DLC (looking at you GTA IV!) which could be invested in new IP etc

- More wasted money on making traditional Playstation 3rd party titles mult-platform and then crowing about it as if it's the best news ever!

- They continue to release watered down, second rate versions of casual titles in a lame effort to land grab from Sony/Nintendo (Lips, In the Movies). And start to integrate Avatars in every damn product. I really don't want to see 'Xbox Fit', 'Xbox Sports', 'Xbox Play' etc etc etc.

Crackdown 2 is all but confirmed now with a new development team being spun off from Real Time Worlds (the original developer) to take the project on full steam. So Microsoft so that in the cards as Larry Hryb has teased recently.

ME2 is confirmed to be released, but that won't be a 09 title -- no idea if it'll be exclusive to the 360 (most likely) either.

Rare has reportedly three titles next years with one of them being on the Xbox Live Arcade and it's not Banjo-Tooie. (Perfect Dark 2, Conker 2, Killer Instinct 3, whatever you'd like to imagine... along with whichever franchise they port or HD upgrade for the XBLA).

Microsoft also have projects with Mistwalker Studios that they aren't speaking about currently but Cry On may have moved over from Cavia to Microsoft for a publishing deal and it's only a matter of time before Lost Odyssey 2 and Blue Dragon 2 are announced (Blue Dragon already is receive it's 2nd DS title, so that's three titles in this franchise already).

Most of the games you guys mentioned above don't even matter. We are talking about games that are gonna rock the world. The only game you mentioned that will cause a stir is ME2, and guess what? Thats multiplat. Im not being a fanboy. I play on my 360 more then my ps3 at the present time, but you cant deny the fact that Sony has more and better exclusives then any pc or console next year. all the games mentioned above (besides ME2 of course) are mediocre at best compared to Sonys library next year.

So ya, pretty much what Im trying to say to all you bots is that you will be missing out on a lot of games next year if you dont get a ps3. Sure its pricey, but you would already own a ps3 if you were a true gamer. The 360 has been around for 3 years now. Its not like you couldn't save ten dollars a month since then to get a ps3. R2, Motorstorm 2, LBP, Metal Gear, Wipeout HD, Uncharted, Warhawk, Ratchet, and GTP are good enough reasons to buy a ps3 by now. If you don't own one then you must not be a true gamer.

Actually, Killer Instinct, Perfect Dark and Conker are bigger franchises than majority of Sony franchises and don't pretend like they aren't since they are proven franchises that have sold great and have been received critical acclaim at times too.

There's only one game that's going to "rock the world" for the PS3 and that's God of War 3 and that's not even an established 2009 title. The rest are all good fillers at this point since Uncharted is still a franchise trying to prove itself to the gaming community along with Killzone. Heavy Rain is in the same boat as Alan Wake too.

So please don't overlook a gaming library without carefully examining it. Nintendo is set to have a great year too.

you forgot to mention Mass Effect 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction. Mass Effect 2 is supposed to come out in 09. Its been in development since june 07. Mass Effect is the Best Game of all time

actually Mass Effect 2 won't make 09 due to that Dragon Age Origins is coming out and Bioware won't want to compete with themselves. The only possibly way is that if Dragon Age releases in early Fall and ME2 releases in late winter. Still, highly doubtful that Bioware will release two games in one year in the same genre on the same console.

As for Splinter Cell: Conviction, that probably won't make 2009 either due to the development problems.

people complain about multiplats but in the end they are playing the same freaking game on their console of choice. I don't like to bring this up, but games like resistance 2 should have sold close to or on par with gears 2. Instead it was outsold by a multiplat game like COD. games are games and the more people that enjoy them the better. Do some of us really think that devs are going to continue to make fresh and new IP's when they don't sell. Gamers are some of the most picky and fickle people on the planet. We want new IP's; exclusive IP's just for the sake of saying it's exclusive but we don't support the titles. shut up about whether a game is multiplat or not and just enjoy good games.

Exactly. Lol everyone pretends like most people give a crap. They most certainly don't, if a 360 kid gets COD, I'm pretty sure he's happy. Multi-platform games are usually the system sellers because they are usually the biggest names. Almost all of Sony's first party has sold nothing. Gears Of War 1 and 2 and MGS4, were the two stand out titles that sold a ton of units. Fable 2, Bioshock (for it's exclusive time) Resistance 1 and 2, Uncharted and Forza 2 all sold pretty well. But every other 1st party game has been around the 1-1.5 million mark or struggled to meet that.

360 has some stuf going on here. I think Alan Wake will be cool and halo Wars will be good for rpg/stragegy buffs. The other big names are all multi=plat though. 360 needs Stafcraft Ghost to re-surface, and where is HUXLEY? Been hearing about that game for 2 and a half years now. Instead of exclusive DLC I thik it would have been hot if Msoft would have used their RARE company and made a Goldeneye remake. The same game, with the bungie/Epic graphics engine. THAT WOULD BE HOTT!! I would even consider getting a 360 for that.

To the people saying they are all MP games just think about it for a second. MS has not even announced their 09 line-up. Sony announced their 09 line-up in 2006 so the hype train is ready to arrive when Sony decide. MS will no doubt announce a few games for a fall release and this list will be worthless. Also add to the fact that games such as COD will excel on 360 more because it has a solid on-line community.

why would cod excel on xbox? just because your paying $50.00 a year to get online so that makes your mind think its better!!!!! i had xbox live since the first xbox came out and honestly the psn is alot better.... first of all its free and second i dont get as much lag as i used to with xbox live!!!! yes everyone on live have mics and thats about the only thing that xbox live has over psn but then again xbox comes with cheap mics and people have to buy a bluetooth for the ps3 so thats why not that much people talk...bottomline why would you pay $50.00 for the same service when you can get it for free? and theyre both even ( psn has less lag)pretty much. but you know what the dumb ones are the ones paying $50.00 for a service im getting for free!!!!!

Even though I think the HALO games are just mediocre FPS's that got extremely overrated, due to the online scene back then for consoles was weak, and was one of the first games to bring console gamers into online play, but anyway I would have actually gotten HALO wars had it been coming out for PC, but I herd it wont be (only reason I'd get it is because its the same people who made the AOE games I am pretty sure, and I love them), but controller rts's are just meh for me...
