Metal Gear Solid: Who Should Remake It?

IGN: "Kojima is down to have someone use the Fox Engine and remake his baby. What developer should do it?"

Naughty Dog for sure, they would take their time and make a great make. Kojima would trust them with his baby for sure since they have a great track record in making compelling titles.

@ 6DEAD6END6
Naughty Dog should make the next Syphon Filter, and not waste time and resources remaking an old game.

RumbleFish3983d ago

I cannot and will never understand why KP don't do it. They just need to create one room in the MGS 4 engine. Apart from that room where Snake enters Shadow Moses in MGS everything is allready done in MGS 4. Remake the cut scenes, use the old voice overs. Done.
Correct me if I am wrong.

I'd have to agree with this. Their talents would be squandered on the limited scope of another artists vision.

Who should remake MGS1? And 2 etc.?

Koji pro, or some other team within Konami preferably in the same building as Kojima productions.

As much as I love Naughty Dog, I prefer a Kojima productions making the game. I don't know if anyone has noticed, but there is a certain 'feel' to MGS games and it needs to be present in any remake's.

The GameCube remake and MGR were actually missing this 'feel' I am talking about. The very first gameplay trailer for MGR (when it was still being developed by Koji Pro), this 'feel' was present there as well.

I can't really explain what it is, but the MGS game's atmosphere is just spot on and I am afraid that no external studio can nail this type of 'feel/atmosphere'.

Btw, this doesn't mean I wouldn't welcome Naughty Dog remaking MGS. But I would prefer Kojima productions make it though, or another Konami studio in Tokyo.

I wouldn't want Silicon Knights (if they still exist), or Platinum games doing the MGS remake though.

@RumbleFish, unfortunately, you are wrong. Whilst a lot of Shadow Moses was remade, there are LOTS of areas that weren't. I can think of the basements where you meet the DARPA Chief, and fight Ocelot off the top of my head, you also have the Commander's Room (where you fight Psycho Mantis), along with the numerous rooms around that building.

There is still a lot of work to be done for this remake to even think about happening.

Mainman, couldn`t agree more.

I also think ND would rather work on Uncharted, Last of US sequel of some sort, or maybe a new IP. And use their own engine too.

I think the same applies for big studios like Rocksteady etc. So, i would imagine i would be a smaller, upcoming developer or a less "famous" studio of some sort.

I played through both MGS1 and FF7 not too long ago and they both are still the magical games i remember, so a little unsure if a remake is needed.

It would be fun to see them updated with better graphics and controls for fans and to get more new people into them :)

Naughty Dog. Naughty Dog can do stealth gameplay and better.

6DEAD6END63983d ago

I don't think they will make stealth better but they would make the acting and cinematic compelling from a story stand point.

TongkatAli3983d ago

Going flat on your stomach and crawling then getting up or running then going to the position to crawl was always clucking and annoying.

Also attaching to walls is clunky to me in Metal Gear games and in Uncharted and Last Of Us attaching to walls is so smooth.

4A Games from their past work on the metro franchise.

lastdual3983d ago

I wouldn't mind seeing Arkane (the guys that made Dishonored) give it a shot. Won't happen, as they're under the Bethesda umbrella and thus wouldn't be able to do a Konami-published game, but the talent is there.

There are so few developers that can be trusted to do stealth right these days :(

sarshelyam3983d ago

Highmoon has covered the gamut of games and really hit the nail on the head of nostalgia with their Transformers Cybertron entries.

Avalanche Studios would be another prime contender for handling the property with care...though they're far more into the open-world fresh IP angle with titles like Just Cause and Mad Max!

I don't know, but those are my suggestions.

I’d have taken a few of those out. Prefer Sonic over Sonic 2. Outrun should be in there. Maybe even Pong as millions of people had fun with that even if it was repetitive. Final Fight pipped any Streets of Rage game, although Streets of Rage had the better soundtrack. Too many to list l guess. To me, retro gaming is the 1980s, maybe going into early 1990s.

Agree that the generational gap is too broad to really make a strong list. Need to tighten the years a bit. Hard to compare Pac Man with N64 games.
