Not sure how they managed to make this article out of a fairly non-committal and very general comment.
I think few people doubt that the graphics chipset in the Wii U will be superior to the PS3 and 360. The fact that the games are actually running in 720 or 1080p instead of the lower resolutions that many 360 games run in is testament to that.

It's the lack of even basic computer skills. Most PC owners don't even know how to install windows onto a PC, let alone Ubuntu. They buy their PC from Dell or Toshiba or whoever, and keep the same OS and programs on it forever.
Most of them just use it for Facebook and Youtube, so the virtues of Ubuntu are kind of wasted on them.
It is a bit of a catch 22 situation - devs won't make games until there are people to buy them, and people won't use Linux until there are games to play on it.
That said, technology does exist to port games to Linux using emulation technology. Crossover is one of them. While not ideal, it could be a way for developers to more easily port their games to Steam Linux.

Almost every major home console has been region locked. It would be news if the Wii U wasn't, but it is, so who cares?
