Put it this way:
I buy a 1TB hard drive to store my downloaded HD movies on. After I've spent years downloading and build up a library, my hard disk dies...
Hmmm... I think I'd rather have to only replace one movie if the disc gets scratched up, as opposed to replacing my entire library if/when my hard drive snuffs it.

Yes PS3 has helped Blu Ray significantly, but the format war will not be decided by consoles. It will be decided by Movie studios and consumer friendly prices.
I love my PS3 and buy a lot of BR movies, but not all PS3 owners do the same.
It doesn't just go by how old it is.. One of the best selling HD-DVD's is Casablanca.. just a teeny tiny bit older than either Rocky or the 5th element.
Check out reviews, wether you like the movie or not, the reviews will tell you that the picture quality of Casablanca on Hd is stunning.
Movies are always filmed in a much higher format than anyone will use at home anytime soon. Its just a matter of how they transfer it to disc.

Xmas sales probably did sel out HD-DVD in a lot of places, so why is it so hard to believe? Blu-ray is crushing HD-DVD but that doesn't mean people aren't buying them..
If people want to upgrade their current DVD library to next gen, obviously they will buy more than just new movies..

I'm no fanboy of either side of the format war, but if someone hacked HD-DVD site and stuck a bluray logo on there, the sony fans from this site would be laughing their ass off.
The title states they are competing in STORES.
Obviously the Wii can't compete against the PS3 in terms of graphics, and power, but it has showed it can compete in sales.
Wii hater or not, nobody can deny that Nintendo really pulled a rabbit out of their hat with the Wii. Its probably the most talked about console in history.

Come on! Compare a movie on both formats and you will see they are equally amazing. I keep hearing about Transformers not having HD sound... boring. The sound on Transformers is better than any movie I've watched on either format.
Yesterday I bought Casino Royale on BR and it was stunning, picture, sound, everything.. just the same as Transformers was on HD-DVD.
Yes BluRay will win, but consumers are being shaf...

By the time this format war is over, Microsoft will be too far along in developing the next xbox, which will likely include whichever format wins..
Anyone think Sony or Microsoft will just give up on making consoles? Never going to happen!
