You guys are quick to make assumptions with limited info.
Rage2 wasn't cancelled. They cancelled current development on it so the entire studio could work on Doom4. Once that's out the door, or nearly done, work on Rage2 can continue.
Also, hopefully Rage2 will be much better than Rage1, Rage was an okay game that looked amazing from far away but it did alot wrong.
Lol dark satanic origins? Not the Dooms I remember... you know, the ones with bright open outdoors and cartoony monsters. Now THAT was badass.
The Rage version of Tech5 can't do openworld. It's simply too much texture data flowing in at real time.
I mean if Skyrim were a wasteland then they could do it, but that's not the case. There is too much rendered in Skyrim to attempt streaming its texturing in realtime.
Yeah, seems like that might be the case. Really sad considering we've been waiting for Doom4 since before Rage released :/
Rage2 isn't cancelled. What they did is cancel work on it for the time being, the entire studio has been told to focus on just Doom4.
Except of course, the fact they said Doom4 would be action based and would have many enemies at once... and the fact that even the version they scrapped was full of demons crawling from everywhere.
I doubt Doom4 will be like Doom3.
Better to have low expectations, and be impressed, than to expect something great. Expecting an epic game is what really disappoints in the end.
Another factor is hoping for the game to be a certain way. There is stupider mistake for a fan to make than to envision the game and love their idea of it. It's best to play the game not having any expectations.
They already said long ago that it will be more of an action shooter, like Doom2, instead of a closed creepy game like Doom3.
In fact the reason for 30fps is to have nice visuals AND allow more monsters on the screen, Carmack's words.
#1 "Drop idTech5"
Gawd how I wanted to like the author for the rest of his article, but he clearly has no knowledge of Tech5 at all... ugh. People shouldn't write about things they're clueless about.
Anywho the rest I agree with, it needs to be epic.
They never said Rage would be open world, in fact they said many times it wouldn't be. People said that id said it would be.
You can't trust random people.
Id clearly stated the world was big, and you could do some exploring. They told the truth.
One of the few things Rage did right was AI, so...
Cloud gaming, the way it is for now, is a great thing, and if it stayed that way it'd be great.
Unfortunately, we can't help but fear it will become a shithole, because when the money-train rolls in we all get screwed.
No, actually, some people don't have internet. You'd notice if you leave your cave and get to know the people in the world.
Sad as it is, some people don't have internet.
The game will be great so long as it's PC-first, then dumbed down so that the consoles can handle it.
Of course, I don't expect the kids hear to know this, but it's been a long time since Carmack said focusing on consoles for Rage was a bad idea. Yet here ye' all are sill complaining about a console port.
All I request is that the game feel like Doom. No CoD shit please, don't give me orders, let me do as I wish, let me go back and forth t...
Lolz... can't tell if sarcasm, or total idiocy...
Rage showed his true ability? Lol, you're a fucking moron. Rage wasn't even close to idSoftware working their best. It was a warmup, getting to know the engine.
Of course, I don't expect you or the other morons to know anything about that, you guys don't know shit about game design.
Hyped it as something it's not? Or maybe some retards only heard what they wanted hear, no?
Lol, people disagreeing are retarded.
That Rage playthrough really looks a whole gen ahead of Uncharted 3, which has people and cars that look like toys.
Stop embarassing yourself, kid, you're a damn idiot.
Carmack didn't make Rage, he made the engine, and if the Rage development team couldn't make something good, that's their fault.
Seriously, you're a fucking idiot.
Yeah I don't think anyone realizes how this was obviously a joke, a way of teasing WarZ for being a generic modern-style "survival horror" game :P
