I was in fact, speaking for myself. But I find your position to be somewhat disingenuous. I say the fact the game is a retcon speaks for itself in terms of sales. Why go back to the glory years in the first place if you're not trying to recapture some of your audience? Just to give 2.5D perspective a chance? I don't think so. Or How about that MK Arcade anthology coming out in the fall? Is that for the benefit of all us poor, benighted "casual" MK players too? Most observers...
Molyneux isn't exactly known for making bullseye remarks about his games. Remember how Project EGO was going to revolutionize the way you think about RPG character and story development, and what we got was something of a watered down hybrid of Zelda and the Sims? Let's not even talk about Black and White...
He did say a lot more in the full text of the interview, but it does sound like Fable was stripped down to the casual kinect level instead of "core," ironi...
Five years later, I don't really think anyone buying a new form factor Wii is going to miss playing a copy of Geist on the machine. Or most other GCN content. Then again, BC is a nice fan service. Guess I'm indifferent either way. Nintendo did exactly have a rep for BC on their home consoles anyway.
I'm sorry but, if you pay $120 for a customized controller, you've got too much bloody money. I guess was spoiled by the simpler days of gaming when $250 got you two controllers and a game with the system.
Forgive me if I get a little nostalgic reading this. I'm reminded of the bombastic declaration of another Sony guy over a decade ago:
"Did you see the movie The Matrix? Same interface. Same concept. Starting from next year, you can jack into The Matrix!"
-Ken Kutaragi, about the PS2
I'm not entirely convinced that the device is priced competitively. It may be a "fair" price for the hardware, but that doesn't mean it can compete with Nintendo - based on hardware price point alone. Plus, we live in a slightly different time than in 2005 when the PSP came out. Nintendo's sucking wind with the 3DS may have as much to do with people not blowing money on consumer electronics these days as with brand, 3D gimmick fatigue. I guess we'll see when it comes...
Just in time too, since my launch PS3 is finally starting to show signs of death. Really though, five years later and ~58% price drop ain't bad at all.
Hear, hear. I'd also add the Atari 2600, since it virtually created the North American console market. And almost brought about its destruction by over saturation, but that's another day out to lunch, as they say.
Hey I didn't say I agreed with the order, just saying that almost 40 years into the industry's existence, it's hard to argue against the 3 choices when they all were influential in their own right.
It looked very slick, just wish there wasn't as hard a jump into SSX talk. I just wish they had shown more actual gameplay than marketing video.
Speaking with about as much authority as the author of the article, I can say that with the exception of Gears 1 (not listed...) not one game on the list has ever been an object of desire amongst PS3 owners...that I know, anyway. Most have never heard of Alan Wake.
Do we have confirmation that Square-Enix is actually changing their name? I'm not a patent/copyright/trademark watcher or a lawyer, but speaking from experience, rebranding efforts are not usually something done on a whim. It costs tons of money beyond filing for a new trademark, when you consider revamped marketing material, internal materials, etc. They could have registered the trademark as part of a routine maintenance of their existing brand, as some other folks have pointed out. I t...
It's hard to argue with the choices, but I will anyway. Excluding the 16-Bit generation entirely is an odd choice, I mean, if not for Sega's port of MK, you could argue the gaming industry never would have gotten an independent ratings system. And I'd argue that the PS2 built on and surpassed everything the PSX did in the 90s. It is still the best selling home console of all time, after all.
Posted on the blog proper since N4G was down (apparently) when I tried to post it. It may sound harsher than I intended it to be. Good game but could have better.
And now the article is gone? I can glean what was on the list based on the comments, but still. What was the most controversial game on the list? Halo 3?
It's a solid list, but why only pick from a pool of games that haven't even come out yet? I suppose it says something about the brand recognition more than the games themselves.
I don't know, the Mario analysis may have been more poignant if the author had pointed out the inherent class warfare in a blue collar guy trying to cross boundaries for his love of an aristocratic princess.
I'm very excited for ME3. I thought the gunplay was superior in ME2 than the original, although I wasn't a fan of the equipment/character customization. I hope they struck a good balance between a wide range of customization choice and not overwhelming the player with too much choice.
I've been meaning to watch the updated vids. I just remember Doom 3 being the "you must upgrade your PC" event of the last decade, and, well...why couldn't the marines mount a tactical light under their muzzles again? :-)
Finally - Return of Samus is getting released on the Virtual Console. That will be a day one purchase for me - just hope it's still the same without the clunky original gameboy : - )
