Well I imagine that this is a decent way to try and introduce gamers into the MMO market who weren't interested in WoW (like me) so there's a good chance they won't be stealing too many of their own subscribers
I'm not even concerned with CPU advancement right now. Ever since Crysis was released, its the GPU market that's caught my eye. Intel Core 2 Duo and Quad seem to put out more than enough processing power for my personal needs, and as long as Intel and AMD keep things spicy, we're looking at pretty decent advancements such as this one.
Gotta love the competition. I might just be in the market for a 200 series after all...
If it isn't a triple A title, I won't pay a penny over 40.00 for it. That's just my standard, and often I will wait to find a used copy of a subpar game a few weeks after its release to play it. If it's really that terrible, but I still want to play, I cross the street and head inside blockbuster to rent.
It's a question of addiction, from an "intangibles" perspective. Will Diablo 3 have that aesthetically pleasing feeling that would only otherwise be instilled by substance abuse. It has to feel like you're so caught up in the game that the idea of stopping never crosses your mind.

Blizzard games aren't usually extremely graphics intensive, and because they focus more on perfecting gameplay and plot, the demands on your rig will probably be reasonable. I'd assume you could max out graphical settings with an 8800GT even when they come out in 2009/2010. Just a guess though...
Well this is what happens when you try and go the cheap and fast route with millions of high horsepower gaming units. Fortunately I only had the problem once, and have so far enjoyed my Xbox thoroughly.

So the disadvantages of the 4870 are higher temperatures and higher power consumption when compared to the Nvidia. What are the consequences of that though - does it lower the cards life cycle? And if it's allowed to get hotter, does it mean it emits less sound?

Males and females should have their advantages and disadvantages. It makes an MMO or an RPG a bit more dynamic and realistic.
After practically playing nothing but Diablo 1 and 2 on PC for the past decade, I understand the position that hardcore fans are taking in terms of the artistic style. If you take a look at the visual suggestions they have in mind, their arguments have some merit. If you haven't seen, take a look:
