Game Spot trashed Dead Island in their review I watched yesterday. And Star Trek doesn't look that great graphically, but it does look entertaining if you're a fan.
I've been enjoying both systems for 7 years but I think this time around I will buy only one. It will be the one with the most "projected" exclusives at their time of release. I am sure both will be better then the current gen so that is not my concern. What matters is if developers will make quality games with campaigns longer then 4-6 hours. Yeah it has been shown that the PS3 has all this potential for great looking games but will history repeat itself for the next consoles? ...
I can't remember what card they said it was comparable to. They claimed it will be an enhanced version tho. I might just get a 7970 card instead cause it is a 384-bit with 3GB GDDR5 and 280 GB/s Memory Bandwidth. I think I would be getting a lot more putting 400$ on that and keeping my PS3. Guess I will make a solid decision in 6 months or so.
Will be a tough choice for me. Either getting the PS4 or a new GPU. I read the memory bandwidth was around 170GB/s, shared. Thats about comparable to a 200$ card. I would need more specs. But if it will have a PC type architecture, then maybe that will boost development for the PC version. Don't like waiting 2 months to a year for a PC release.
So my choices will be either the PS4, GTX 680 or the Radeon 7970.
I also agree that there will be a huge gap between next gen and its predecessors. But I also think there are many things that will be presented. Some gimmicky and some not. It seems that most peoples area of focus is solely on GPU and RAM.
Desirable but more like wishful thinking. We can probably only expect the same upgradable features that we have now. If we can swap the GPU and RAM then what incentive will we have to purchase the "PS5 & Xbox 1440"? They're in the business for making long term money. And if those parts are upgradable, then it wouldn't take long for compatible after market parts to hit the net.
@Zhipp I also wished M$ offered better deals but they don't. Did you see their 12 day countdown to new years deals? The $20 sale price of some of them were stuff that ps+ got for free months ago. M$ makes me feel like I waste my money with them. I haven't played Darksiders so I look forward to it.
SD cards can get pricey depending on what class you get. $5 is for a very low end card which would limit the read/write speeds of the console. I am also interested in knowing what kind of discs the new box will use. Going Blu-ray will somewhat bridge a gap between the consoles but if Blu discs do drive up costs then maybe introducing a quad layer dvd disc will be more plausible. If Sony doesn't launch at the same time as Microsoft they are dead in the water. Even if they launch within a few months it will cost them years of trailing behind in sales. If they do make the mistake of launching second, they will have to under price the next Xbox while still matching or surpassing their GPU. Also, will PS4 online be cross-gen? If yes, then they will have to continue to offer free online services.
I've got almost 3yrs on XBL and never got a free game. The only time I've seen something free is if you buy 3 games and get one or when they have the special where you get a low amount of points back for spending 1200+ by the end of the month. But since I have only paid about $32 a year, its really the only reason why I maintain my gold. Cause Blops2 cost the same 60 bucks on ps3.
Since we're talking about gaming consoles, all that matters to me is how much of it will be dedicated memory towards gaming. Microsoft has followed Sony in turning the XBox into a video streaming, internet browsing and social media hub with lots of unnecessary eye candy. Graphics should be an afterthought. Storyline is important. I don't mind lengthy cinematics. They need to earn that 60 bucks.
Bought it day one and regretted it after 2 months. it's like the ps3 in the beginning, slow start. its a high power handheld that isn't pushing its real potential.
Skyrim got boring on the console after a while. Seemed like the bad guys became repetitive. Till I tried it on the pc. Console commands were fun. Still was a good game that lasted me 120hrs. I'm on Guild Wars 2 now.

Why so many disagrees? its true. If you have the patience, you will make more selling on ebay or Craiglist. You only benefit from GS if you wait for the 3/5/7 game trade bonuses.
Game stop won't take a game that is unopened (wrapper still on). I just tried last week. They will tell you to bring it back "another day" with it opened. its against store policy. You can't even open it there to give it to them.
Last time I believe LoT!!!!!!!!!! Bought the Xbox version and played the PS3 version at my neighbor's house. The PS3 version is better by a sizable margin. I wish I could get a full refund so I could get the PS3 version. F*** the fan sh**! I buy the better copy. I have every system including a gaming PC rig. This comparison is bogus.
The Beta was good in my opinion and I like stealth games. I had to pass on Max Payne for this til my next check.
Anyone know if the PC version will have local co-op? Conviction didn't so I went with 360.
