The PS1 and PS2 were still close to the most powerful console. So those are not justifiable examples. The wii however is xbox 1 powerful in a gen where consoles are many times more powerful than the last gen.
I liked MW1's, MW2's and MW3's story. I liked how they all came together. It is a different type of story than most games. The MW series is like a action packed hollywood style film(transformers).
I have noticed that many people did not pay attention to the story of the MW series. Then they say it is like the same story every single time.
That is the problem. You should not have dead bodies from when you are lvl 10 to lvl 62. The loot they drop is bad and is a burden on the system. On the 360(which I play it on) they usually disappear after 120 skyrim hours.

I can see them doing a $500 console but any more than that is really taking risk. If game prices go up then pirating and used game buying will rise.
I like elite but I am not going elite pro or whatever it is called until I see enough DLC that I want.

You are only paying attention to the shooter games. If you search around you will see that there are tons of games that are innovative and are not shooters.
