If you read the interview that Peter had with Next-Gen ...

... he accidently indicates there is some form of competition when he essentially says 'How can this UNO player beat me'.

Hard to say fully what that feature is entirely, but his death comment with Joystiq and the UNO comment with next-gen are ...

A few notes: A) I haven't tried the other services, B) I live in the US, C) I never rented DVDs (I only bought) and watch a fair number of films, D) I don't watch television much so don't have a great cable package.

What I can say is that I have been quite happy with the Digital Downloads on Live, particularly of late. For much of last year it was hard to find good films to watch, but as of Fall my wife and I have been renting a movie once a week. There were times when we had t...

I really hope this is the ability for Live members to play XNA created games without requiring Creator's Club membership.

I'm not a fan of shooters, and clearly you disagree, but I really liked Gears. In fact I preferred Gears to Halo 3 and I preferred it much more to previous Unreal titles (the games, not the engine).

I have absolutely no interest in Unreal 3, but Gears 2 I'm quite interested in. Not sure Gear 2 will come out this year, but if so I'll be getting it.

I do think Microsoft needs Gears 2 to come out this year. Shooters sell, particuarly in the US, and Sony clearly has ...

Agreed. This was a very weak list. In addition to what you said, there is Too Human, Borderlands, Banjo and Kazooie, Huxley (if shooters are your thing), etc. Obviously they can choose whatever they like, but it seems odd to be picking mostly multi-platform titles given the exclusives coming out.

I do enjoy card based games that are re-done as video games. 15 years ago I played the card game quite a bit with friends in university and since have tried some variants that have shown up on the PC.

For those waiting, check out Culdcept Saga (see demo on Live). It is like Magic: the Gathering meets Monopoly. I'm working my way through it right now.

GTA sold hardware for the PS2. I have no doubt this game will also sell hardware. There are a lot of people who haven't chosen their 'next-gen' console. They are waiting for enough titles that they care about to make the plunge.

So then, when you consider that MS is most likely to drop their console price (Sony may as well), and put in additional content plus future exclusive content, it may sway in the 360's favour. Not a guarantee, but I think it will be helpful.

I'm personally a fan of Inside Xbox (at least here in the States). First thing I do when I turn on my 360 is check Inside Xbox (assuming it is flashing red), and then check what is New in the Marketplace (in part because my wife and I watch at least one movie a week off the marketplace, so I like to see if any new movies came out).

No problem. These number games from MS/Sony are always entertaining.

Confused why I got a disagree from someone. Every post I put these days puts the back-up data from an external source (ie it isn't an opinion), and yet I get a disagree. It wasn't as if I said the PS3 sold less than the 360 over the first 13 months of life ... I showed it was the opposite according to manufacturers numbers.

Something is definitely off. These numbers don't seem to match up well given what they said. The guidance from Sept 07 ... http://www.gamespot.com/new... ... was for 11 million which is only .5 million from what they are reporting here (and only 3 months world wide to get it), yet they lowered their guidance.

You said ...
---
from 05 to 06 novemeber the 360 sold about 9 million+ consoles world wide.. and from 06 to 3rd quarter 07 the firts year of PS3 they sold 10.49 million consoles
---
For the PS3 number you included December 07, but for the 360 you didn't include December 06. Nothing wrong with a good comparison, but make the data over the equivalent time period for a more accurate comparison. Microsoft's numbers (according to them, just as this was according to So...

Doshey,

I don't listen to VGChartz, but tried to help indicate the argument. It is pretty simple to look at the numbers from MediaCreate and NDP.

The 360 sold just over 2 million more units than the PS3 in North America.
Source: http://www.gamesindustry.bi...

In Japan the PS3 sold just under 1 million more units than the 360.

Read the article that I attached. Channel Stuffing has been a pretty common tactic and MS effectively signalled they did this by how badly they lowerered expections for 2007. Also, all you need to do is compare the NPD data to get a flavouring. MS's biggest market ...

To be clear ... MS has NOT repeated this going into 2008 though. The ~17.7 million for 2007 is much closer to the customer sell-through than the ~10.4 million from 2006.

The PS3 did not outsell the 360 from retailers selling to end users, but it did outship (during 2007) from manufacturer to retail.

In 2006 MS had a mandate to sell 10 million by the end of the year. But sell means to the retailers. And they did that ... by channel stuffing. That is why MS had to lower their target numbers where originally were, if I recall, closer to 15 million, by June. With the channel stuffing there was no way in hell it was going to happen. Retailers were...

Would love to get a thinner/small 360. Part of the problem is the HD attachment however. They can't make it thinner without some extreme engineering/clever problem solving. They could make it less deep and long though.
