Console version of Sims 3 was designed for a controller, Sims 4 is a lazy port, and I regret buying it for my wife. We figured out how to get past the save glitch, but by then she was done. To make up, I will get Animal Crossing on her phone.
Interesting theory. But you are wrong about character development. Where do you think a story comes from? Without a character, their would be no story. The "hero's journey" is what most games are about.

The reason switch sells better for games than iPad is because of several things. Switch is optimized for games, phones aren't, Nintendo is great at dominating the handheld and niche gaming market. They create memorable characters, who is created by apple??? Does apple even have a main gaming IP? No one gets a phone or iPad to just play games, they get it for the Apps.

Look peeps, there comes a time when game reviews need to beef themselves up and expect more. It's almost as if every triple A title is getting above and 8 for review scores.
