The PS3 cost $1060.00 to make, it sold at retail for half that on average. So how was it overpriced?
With PS4, more than likely. With PS2 and PS, possibly. With PS3, not without CELL. Back in 2013, Masayasu Ito (Executive Vice President, Hardware Engineering and Operation) said at the time that PS3 emulation wasn't currently possible; and that for PS3 backwards compatibility to be achieved, CELL would be required:
"Ito: Backwards compatibility, particularly in Japan, is something that is strongly brought frequently, so we thought long and hard about this. Realisti...
It doesn't matter how many people SIE and the RPCS3 community throw at PS3 emulation. It'll likely be quite some time before they get it to work properly. Some years ago, Masayasu Ito (Executive Vice President, Hardware Engineering and Operation) said at the time that PS3 emulation wasn't currently possible; and given the state of RPCS3, I'll defer to his opinion:
"Ito: Backwards compatibility, particularly in Japan, is something that is strongly brough...
It has S-O-N-Y stamped on the front and top of the console and controller in big bold capital letters, yet people insist on calling it a 'Nintendo' Play Station as if it were made by Nintendo... so weird.
PD gave the world an early glimpse of what a CELL-based PS4 would've been like when it connected four PS3's together to run GT5 in native 4K at 60fps/2K at 240fps... https://www.gtplanet.net/gr... , https:...
I want to clarify some things and issue a correction. You quoted The Verge and Windows Central, and i took both quotes to come from Windows Central. I didn't have a problem with what Windows Central said about xCloud console streaming, I did have a problem with how The Verge played up a non-existent partnership. So it's you and The Verge who need to get a grip -- not Windows Central.
Previously, you listed Microsoft (MNC) as one of three links to the qoute: "So...
You said, "their precious manufacturer is utlising Microsoft's cloud tech to improve their service." . .. Sony is not currently using MS's cloud tech. Will Sony partner with MS to use it in the future? Perhaps, but a partnership has to be struck first. Read slowly and comprehend that which you read:
"Under the memorandum of understanding signed by the parties, the two companies will explore joint development of future cloud solutions in Microsoft Azur...
Exactly.
Never say never.
Hot garbage.
That's just the half of it. DJStotty said MS is going to charge a fee to use it on the go. Let that sink in...
You and windowscentral.com need to get grip. Sony isn't using MS's cloud tech, and Sony didn't strike a partnership with MS in May:
"With that, this is where Ryan clarifies that “as of now there is no partnership between Sony and Microsoft.” All they have done is simply sign a memorandum of understanding committing them to explore potential partnerships. This is of course the first step to a likely partnership, but let’s not jump the gun just yet."... ...
My takeaway from Ito and Cerny's words/patents is that at the moment, I should expect PS5 to play PS4/pro games -- not PS3 games. Despite this though, there are two things that give me hope: Kenichiro Yoshida's characterization of the SSD and the SSD patent itself that cites another patent. First, Yoshida's characterization:
"We plan to do that by further improving the computational power of the console, measured in TFLOPS (Tera Floating-point Operations Pe...
3. I would like to know where you read or heard that SIE hired RPCS3 guys to help with ps3 emulation. The only person I've heard mention something to that affect was Foxy Games UK, and that was just his own speculation. He said he didn't know if it was true, but he thought it was likely. However, his "likely" doesn't cut it. Particularly when the fastest most capable PCs currently available can't run PS3 games under emulation without running into all sorts of issues,...
2. A couple months ago, a YouTuber uploaded a somewhat poorly produced video... https://www.youtube.com/wat... in which he shows how to connect a PSVITA or PSP to a ps3 via router for remote play, instead of connecting them directly to the ps3. By accessing PS3 via router he claims that a boost in performance (reduction in latency) of 2x or more is possible. I imagine that a netwo...
I don't have much in the way of expectations, but I do have suspicions which give me hope that PS5 will be a legitimate heir to PS3 -- unlike PS4/pro:
1. Although Jim Ryan said he wants to quickly transition the community from PS4 to PS5, he never said 'a reasonable price' would be one of the conduits used to facilitate that transition. When it comes to PS5's price, the only person to vaguely speak on it was Mark Cerny, and ironically, what he said about it&...
Kutaragi-sama! Where have you been?!
x86 is stale bread and rancid butter.
Sony wasn't anti-consumer about backwards compatibility this gen. Consumers were anti-$499+ and devs were anti-CELL.
Because PS5 is epic?
