This is not Fallout. Fallout is completely turn-based combat. Combat that demands strategy of the highest kind, not some re-skinned futuristic Oblivion bullshit with some tacked on "bullet-time" aiming mechanism. They may call this game Fallout 3, but as far as I'm concerned the Fallout series ended with Brotherhood of Steel. Bethesda doesn't give a s**t about the history of the series, and the screenshots and gameplay style back up those claims.
Square is often a victim of its own success, change the beloved series (FF) and people rally around the "old times" Glad to see Square doing a great job of keeping the nostalgia of their most popular series, while innovating. Looks like a great PSP game. Slowly the PSP has become a great little RPG platform!!
I guess I'm old fashioned but I miss the completely turn-based 3rd person Fallout
Hot Shots Golf still has the title for best Golf game series. The new one needs to come out already!!!
Omg after beating Jeanne D'Arc and Disgaea, I can't wait for Wild Arms. The sprites look really well done. Should be a winner.
Hopefully this means a North American release around the same time!
This is seriously one of the reasons I bought a PS3. HSG:Fore! and Open Tee for the PSP are two of my favorite games. Can't wait to see what this one is like. They updated the graphics substantially from the Japanese demo and I think they are going to have downloadable content! Can't wait!!
He does have a point though when he says that ME is a poor RPG in terms of the evolution of the genre. I've played it, and needless to say its good, but not great. Slowdown is rampant, the load-times are horrible, and the dialogue (not the voice acting) is campy and overproduced.
In the end its a poor RPG, but a good squad-based third person shooter. If you're looking for the next great RPG, move along, if you're looking for a solid game that is enjoyable, but not earth-shat...
Themes are pretty sweet, but would love to have an option to sort by most downloaded, rating (if they add it), etc;
The Japanese aren't hugely into shooters to begin with. If people want to play dumbed down shooters they buy a 360. If they want a wide assortment of games they buy a PS3. The love of the console shooter is so comical to hardcore PC gamers. Why would I use a gamepad, when I can play a better, more innovative shooter (Crysis) on a PC with a mouse and keyboard? I'll never understand it.
Your a f'in idiot.
Third-person shooter in space with light RPG elements. Wow, yeah that sounds like the BEST game ever.
What made Fallout 1 and 2 such great games was the amount of strategy involved in the combat system. It seems like this game is going towards the Oblivion model of combat, they have action points in a kind of "bullet-time" system, but it is clearly not going to half the combat system that Fallout 1/2 were. If they preserved a fully point-based combat system it'd be amazing. Since they aren't, its going to do the series a HUGE disservice.
I'm a apart of that hardcore group. Unfortunately from their perspective making a more accessible (and "safe") title (aka Oblivion with Guns), is more important than preserving the roots of the franchise. IMO, they should have came up with their own IP rather than sully the great legacy of Fallout 1 and 2.
