Actually... This only partly works. The rebuild database functionally defrags the database, but does nothing for the actual data on the drive. Sony was just smart enough to allow the database to point to the fragments.

If you truly want to "defrag" your drive, the best way is to back up your ps4 to an external drive, and then restore it. The restore should place everything back into a contiguous manner. Then rebuild the database again, and it'll be like brand ...

There's really no need for a DX12 alternative... Linux - FreeBSD in PS4's case - already has very low hardware access.

Side note: The reason why we get the 6000000 stability updates is because the low level access of unix/linux is powered by a massive set of libraries. MS's DX11/12 is a bit singular in terms of functional application.

I'm not sure if you can classify this as boring with respect to what type of shooter that you like.

This particularly mimics the gameplay mechanics of the Gears of War franchise. So, if you liked that franchise, chances are you'll like this one too provided that a (good) story is told correctly.

I mean, let's not compare apples and oranges here. If CoD or BF# was your preference last gen, then honestly the notion that this game is crap seems to be...

Well, to be fair, MS is primarily composed of SOFTWARE developers. Sony has and still is primarily a hardware manufacturer.I'm pretty sure the update is just fine-tuning based on the analysis from the Destiny Beta, maybe with some prep for the big update.

With that reasoning, the question is: Will we see a "fine-tune" update hit the X1 once the beta is done for them? If not, it's pretty telling concerning the difference in the companies' stature on PR v...

I'm not surprised really. PSN went down for maintenance on Saturday, and there was just a huge beta (Destiny) that probably exposed a couple of glitches and bugs mutually. The thing that I like about Sony's "crappy" updates is that it shows that the manufacturer is willing to invest to fix a problem first even if we the consumer don't see it wide-scale. Anyone remember the X360's message about not being able to sign into messenger? Yeah... Or more recently, GM's ...

Yeah bro... Or at least more than likely. Assassin's Creed is heavily story-based. You could maybe watch a playthrough online via youtube or something. The games are actually quite episodic in nature.

I assume that this comment is directed by the contact system stability updates... So, just so we are on the same page, Sony actively develops to improve a product that they've already sold you on... but you hate it, because you can't see the code changes... Kind of short-sighted, no?

What you don't see is hardware sales as it relates to both systems (excluding controllers)... So, on the PS4 side, you have PS Camera, the two "official" headsets, and the Vita. Add the fact that PSN was designed to run at minimal cost, and the amount of realistic profit skyrockets. And then let's not forget that there is a slight dollar amount that MS (and other developers) pays Sony for Blu-Ray licensing. There's more to the picture as was with the case with the PS3. ...

Well, the problem is wide-scale; the reason why plaintiff uses the PS4 version in the lawsuit is because the court can subpoena the crash reports that the PS4 automatically sends for issues to get fixed. Also the PS4 acts as a constant for the lawsuit since it is a relatively controlled operating environment as opposed to PC's which have varying environments.

Well, EA aside, you also have to take in account the massive nature of the game. Pretty much everything is exceptional in BF4 when it works.
- 64 players in a server
- Every map is dynamic
- Audio fidelity is pretty amazing
- Graphical fidelity for the scale of what is going on is awesome
- Nearly everything in the game has a degree of destructibility
- Wavy water in MP (for those that do not know, this is EXTREMELY hard to do in an online envi...

Yeah, this happened on my PS4 version as well. As fun as this game is, EA and DICE really put out a bugged mess of a game. They really could have shut down CoD if it weren't for all these bugs.

I could see some people using the 360 controller on the PS4 if they want offset sticks. I'll stick with my DS4 for my PS4. The X1 controller is also pretty darn cool too with the rumble triggers, but the quality isn't there in my opinion. One of my friends' controller actually doesn't vibrate anymore. His girlfriend is pissed! lol

I share the same sentiment, but Sony can't abandon that the PS3's motion control market either. Or, if they can somehow make an alternative motion controller for all games sort of in the way the remote play should work for all games, I'd be cool with it.

SN: Maybe this ties into their VR headset too?

Don't blame the N4G community when it's the same people that LOVED the 360 during the last generation. I accept that fanboys do exist, but the fact of the matter is that while the X1 is feature rich (and honestly trying to do the same thing as the PS3), the PS4 is the GAMER'S console, save for the obviously more potentially powerful PC's and their gamers.

The majority of console gamers prefer the PS4, and quite honestly, while the X1 DOES have some badass fea...

Alot of people forget that the PS3 is like a small scale supercomputer. From a processing standpoint, it is still up there with the next-gen systems. Graphical fidelity is of course not there due to the antiquated RSX, but most racing SIMULATORS are more heavy on processing anyway.

In any case, this is a business decision, BUT it shows heavy faith in the PS4 to be just as strong as it is now two years later. Releasing GT6 on the PS3 is a no-brainer business decision as you ha...

Well MS marketing is going pretty hard at the moment. It's hard to watch regular TV for more than 15 minutes and not see an ad or shoutout in varying nature to the X1. Sony is sticking to the same "Perfect Day" commercial, so eventually you just sort of tune it out over time I think. Hopefully Sony can match some of the casual features that the X1 has, which ironically is most of the features that the PS3 has.

Well, I'd imagine that the article statement is correct, but only because there were literally no consoles in stores on Black Friday. I know people in three different states where people could not find them, but X1's were in abundance. Cyber Monday was the same thing, and yes, I looked at Sears and Kmart as well.

So yeah, the X1 sold more, but you can't definitively say that demand is higher for either when available stock remains an issue literally worldwide.

@itBourne:

Also piggybacking on what Fangrim said, since developers develop for 18 cores, the 2 extra cores can be turned on to provide extra power. I would imagine, this is a defined "list" by Sony in the form of silent updates. So, if you have 20 functional cores, and a game runs lower than desired spec, say 50 fps, Sony can define a list of games in which the two extra cores activate.

So, in the worst case scenario where you have a working system...
