I think UC4 deserves at least 9.28
Here's my technical breakdown for one scene: http://uploads.im/M0CJS.png
Yes, there's some added detail on the character models and a different use of the depth of field effect but on the other hand some other effects are missing like background smoke/dust with volumetric lighting(?), gloss effect (evident on the parasols, background palm leafs, pillars etc), and light shining through the parasols (they seem to be 100% opaque in the retail version).
These details don't really detract much from the overall presentation but from a technica...
I guess it depends on your taste as to which version you prefer. The biggest difference I see is that in the E3 version the character's skin shadows reflect more of the bluish tint from the sky whereas in the retail version the shadow is of strictly the skin color.
The retail version also lacks some of the background dust effect and gloss effect (palm leafs, pillar, parasols from 0:02 to 0:06, leather strap on Nate's shoulder at 0:27).
I'm guessing Nintendo is holding back rom revealing NX because of some secret key selling feature so that it doesn't get copied by competitors.
I can think of only one reason why Nintendo is doing this - they have developed some kind of fresh feature similar to motion controls for Wii and don't want their competitors copying the feature.
When does the review embargo lift?
Remember the Bible verse guys...
"And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek, ye shall moweth him down with a submachine gun"
How's it shakin', moneybags?
I don't like the new N4G site layout
I find it worrying that a lot of people seem to believe in these 'leaks' by anonymous Reddit users. What's happened to source criticism?
Some snippets from the comments section from that N4G news (since retracted):
"Finally a console that will most likely be able to play 90% of games at high settings 1080p and with smooth 60fps or even a completly lock 30fps will set me happy"
"Looking forward to it! Can't wait ...
Well for one, the Remedy team isn't as big as some other studios. It has less than 150 employees. In comparison, Naughty Dog has about 300 employees.
Another thing that has been mentioned in interviews is that there was some trial and error experimentation involved in QB development. For example, there was a tactical core gameplay mechanic where the main character can rewind time and when forwarding, creating a branching version of himself, essentially multiplying through...
Huh? Wii U came in 2012 so it's had a lifetime of 4 years so far. Both PS4 and Xbox One came out in 2013.
Misleading headline. The article doesn't even try to make the case that smartphones cannot evolve into forms that can produce gaming experiences rivaling dedicated handhelds. It simply lays out the current problems with smartphone games and even then many of the points do not apply to all mobile games.
While it's amazing to have these more and more ambitious and finely detailed games, I'm often wondering how long this kind of evolution can continue before the costs of developing a game get too high.
I doubt there'll be advanced effects like volumetric lighting in the multiplayer as it is 1080p 60 fps. Single player is a different story as it is 30 fps and does indeed look a lot more realistic than the multiplayer.
I'm starting to think that it wasn't a good idea to give an enormously succesful IP in the hands of a developer that hasn't developed a single game from ground up.
Gears 3 looks better
I've watched playthrough videos of the game (yeah, I have no life), including the live action show, and I really don't understand the low review scores from some sites. Based on the videos, QB comes across as a masterpiece to me.
Anyone who's played the game who agrees?
I'm a longtime Nintendo fan but as a person with well working eyesight, I have to disagree with this notion. Studio Ghibli's animations have so much soul and imagination poured into them that a game like Breath of the Wild looks very tame and unimaginative in comparison.
