Well, that is not entirely true - I did factor in price cuts.

The average sales of the last five years that I linked to already include previous sales cuts and sku reshuffles. Thus, the previous ps3 pricecuts are embodied in the numbers that we have access to.

What you are suggesting is that this pricecut will radically increase the rate of ps3 outselling 360 over and above the longterm average that already includes the historical effect of prior ps3 price cu...

I apologise.
I should have said "ps3 fanboys"

"Ps3 fans" tend to be very rational.
I am a ps3 fan myself... and PC fan ... and 360 fan.

Have to correct Darkride66 once more.

First he admits he mistakenly posted "2 million" as the current official gap.... Then he states the gap is "whittled down closer to 3 million"

What is the matter with that guy?

Official figures of Sony and MS have put the worldwide gap at 3.5 million.
No more, no less.

Darkride66's post was marked as immature because he likes to call people out for being wrong, but can't get his own information right.

He remarks that the 360's lead is "now closer to 2 million" ... well... that's flat out wrong.

According to the latest MS and Sony reports, Sony has shipped 51.8m and MS has shipped 55.3m.

Well, I can say that here in Australia, Sony's recent pricedrop has made the ps3 very attractive.

My sister in law asked me for advice as she was considering buying a gaming console for my brother and I immediately suggested the ps3, as it doubles as a bluray player for their bigscreen tv.

Sony dropped the price of the 160gb ps3 to AU$350, but some retailers have already further discounted that price to AU$300.

@ Darkride66

It seems so weird that you still have your 360.
Why haven't you sold it?

All you ever do is complain about it.
I won't bother listing every little negative 360 remark you've espoused and repeated ad nauseum - after all, your bubble count speaks volumes about your negativity.

Why not do us all a favour and sell your 360, so we don't have to hear you complain every few days about what a burde...

Darkride66...

It seems anything at all can be turned into a negative against Microsoft when you put your personal brand of spin on it.

I would like to respectfully suggest that you are being immature and short sighted with your analysis of MS staff changes.
What is particularly telling is that we have never heard you frame the departure or deliberate reshuffling of Sony staff in the same negative light.

The departure of key per...

"Did the PSN go down? I was too busy playing single player games on my PS3 to even notice - and now I get free games anyway. Yeah, that "collapse" was sure awful. :p "

Please tell me you are joking Darkride66?
It seems you are quite the rabid ps3 fanboy, but downplaying the PSN issues is really setting a new low.

Your posting history suggests an ongoing very critical bias against anything 360 ...

I am starting to think there is something very wrong with some people on here.

@ lee_ten

But dude, that's just the thing.
These are NOT the facts.

It was a survey of <6000 people. This may give an estimate , but it does not provide fact.
The only thing that would provide the fact would be if MS and Sony told us their numbers for Australia - but they do not.

VGchartz also provides estimates, right?
Do we assume that VGC is fact, too?
yeah. see?

Gotta agree with Darthv72.

The 360 really deserves respect for keeping the ps3 in third place for this long. According to the official number from Sony and Microsoft, there is actually still some way to go for the ps3 to break even, all speculation aside.

We have to remember that the ps3 was the successor to the ps2, which gave it the biggest and best brand awareness lead any company could ever wish for. The Ps3 arguably failed to take advantage of this cruci...

This is so weird.

This guy has obviously modded his console.
This guy likely has downloaded Geohotz's firmware mod which allows linux in order to implement this, or some other mod which remains on Sony's hitlist.

According to Sony and the ps3 fanbase on n4g he is now in breach of the TOU and will be pursued for stealing Sony's software and proprietary access codes.

According to Sony and the ps3 fanbase on n4g, Sony ...

The issue at hand is that Ps3 fans are definitely divided over this issue.

Some want hacker heads to roll and have their pitchforks at the ready.
Some believe that the deliberate and directed DOS attack is a non-event and Sony will squash it without blinking an eyelid.

The fact that there is such an extreme range of responses from Sony fans really shows us that anonymous achieved their objective in bringing attention to the matter of the court case in...

Bathyj

I am not really arguing for one side or another.
I am simply pointing out that there are two equally persuasive arguments.

Sony maintains that he did break the law, and they are trying to prove this.
Geohotz maintains he did not break the law and he is defending his case.

You are trying to position your opinion of the outcome as the 'correct' point of view, whereby other points of view are simply 'na...

Well that's a bit immature on your part, don't you think Bathyj?

Geohotz has openly stated he does not support piracy and did not hack the ps3 for this purpose. How exactly do you go from that to presuming corporate theft?

If Sony has a case, then they need to prove it beyond reasonable doubt.

Until then, this man is innocent and he remains innocent until proven otherwise.
That's the law.

That's not quite right, Urrakia.

While it is true that ignorance of THE LAW is no excuse, we must also acknowledge that Sony's TOU and user agreements are NOT law per se. Such contracts are often "enforceable by law", but that is another slippery slope altogether.

5204d ago 1 agree2 disagreeView comment

What's really disconcerting is the number of Sony apologists that are presuming guilt before innocence.

In our civilised western society, I thought we presumed innocence until guilt was proven?
How come we forget these civilised maxims when it is Sony that is prosecuting the individual?

There can be no doubt that the onus is on Sony to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Geohotz was guilty of breaching the terms of PSN and breaking the law. ...

I do agree with this sentiment.

Although somen fanboys want to believe otherwise, the ps3 is now over 5 years old and the 360 is 6 years old.

Both consoles struggle to run good-looking games above 720p. Even at this low resolution, we have to contend with dropped frames, comparatively poor textures, pop-in, slow loading, screen tear and the list goes on.

To say the ps3 somehow has significant untapped potential compared to the 360 is si...
