Elden Ring only cost £45. I'd hazard a guess that if it had launched at £70 it wouldn't have done half as good as it has. Of course it's loyal fan base would have bought it but you'd have far less people taking a chance on it.

Fair point when comparing H:FW sales to ER but people are far less likely to take a risk on a new type of game when it costs so much. H:FW is a known quantity, I'm sure GT7 will also sell well at £70 because people know what they're getting, just don't expect people to gamble away £70 on games like Returnal when they aren't sure they'll even like it.

Returnal did poorly for the same reason H:ZD has been outsold by Elden Ring, the £70 price tag.

It's because modern games have forgotten what they're supposed to be about - having fun, there's far too many simulations and stressful online multiplayer which are rather more addictive than they are fun. Add to that tedious achievements that people feel compelled to collect like they're Pokemon.

Digital games is starting to make sense now, corporations and government will be able to control when and how long you are able to game for. It looks like we are implementing China's social credit score system through the back door.

Micromanaging peoples lives is what totalitarian regimes do.

I bought this new for PS4 a couple of years ago for about half that price. Switch games do always seem to be overpriced mind.

If they upgrade the CPU to a quad core Ryzen or better then 60fps will be easy, whether 4K runs at 60fps will depend a lot more on the choice of GPU.

Yes? why not? unless you're obsessive about native 4K (in which case you should have a PC) it will have a far better games catalogue and it won't be abandoned the moment the true next gen hits.

Notice they don't mention which Ryzen, they will be referring to the quad core model but most people will just assume they mean the 8 core model. 1/3 of the performance of a Ryzen quad core isn't really anything to shout about.

The worst part about this is that PD stated people could continue playing and they wouldn't lose progress when the servers came back up as long as they put the PS4 into sleep mode with application still running, so I spent several hours making progress in the new league mode and then when the servers were eventually back up I (and many others) find that it still won't connect and the only way it will is if I restart the game and lose all progress. I only came back to complete the new ...

The trouble for Microsoft is most gamers are still using 1080P displays and PS4 Pro is 30% cheaper, if 4K was mainstream they might have had a winner.

The CPU is only around 30% faster than Xbox One that's the problem, the current generation of consoles are ALL heavily CPU bottlenecked when it comes to 60fps. AMD Jaguar is pants.

When Microsoft and others talk about 4.5x more powerful they're basically comparing GPU's in isolation, it doesn't matter how much more powerful the GPU is if the console is being held back by the CPU.

PS4 and Xbox One will be bigger markets than PS4 Pro/Scorpio by far so developers will try keep as much parity as possible so as not to drive away the majority of their potential customers.

PS4 and Xbox One's AMD Jaguar CPU examined

Because 4 AMD Jaguar cores are about as powerful as a single Intel or AMD Ryzen core and they have a much lower clock speed to boot. The AMD Jaguar used in consoles is basically 2 quad core mobile processors slapped together. They are aimed mostly at being power efficient and to achieve that they're low performance compared to modern PC processors.

Fitting PS4 Pro and Scorpio with an AMD Ryzen processor (even if only a quad core) would have taken both consoles to a whol...

There is a perfectly logical reason, CPU BOTTLENECK.

The vast majority of Xbox Scorpio's hardware improvement is with the GPU, it'll allow them to ramp up resolution and graphic details but you'll still have roughly the same terrible CPU rendering AI and physics and all of the other operations the CPU is responsible for.

Knockknock let me explain, the Destiny developer says that PS4 Pro with a 2.15Ghz AMD Jaguar processor is prevented by the CPU from reaching beyond 30fps, the Xbox Scorpio has a 2.3Ghz AMD Jaguar processor which is roughly 7% faster. A 7% faster processor won't give you 100% increase in frame-rate no matter how much Xbox users wish it to be the case.

4K television owners will and that's who it's aimed at.

I can't believe that you have so many downvotes Obscure_Observer, what you post is fact based on logical reasoning. To anyone that understands hardware this post having so many downvotes is like a "The Earth is round not flat" post being heavily downvoted.

Scorpio has the same Jaguar CPU that is only 150Mhz faster, it will have same major CPU bottleneck. It's a 4K Xbox One NOT a next gen console.

2956d ago 7 agree13 disagreeView comment

AMD Jaguar is a major bottleneck confirmed.

PS4 Pro/Scorpio could have easily trebled or even quadrupled frame rates simply by upgrading the CPU to an equivalently clocked Ryzen processor, the fact that they stuck with Jaguar shows that they are both nothing but upgrades aimed at 4K users.
