Thanks for commenting - that's a great way to describe it. I'd add Stephen King to the mix too!
It isn't - it's basically a blurrier, buggier and worse-looking version of the 1997 original (which has run great on modern systems since 2019 thanks to ScummVM).
In its current state, it’s a truly terrible port.
Thanks for commenting, Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars is one of my favourite adventure games of all time (as I'm sure you can tell). It's crazy that Virgin didn't want to publish it on PlayStation!
Well of course this review is just my personal opinion, but 10/10 doesn't mean I think it's 'perfect' - it's just one of the best I've ever played. To be honest I don't really like scores and have considered removing them for some time. The words of the review itself are what matter most.
The original Psychonauts has obviously aged a bit, but I replayed it a few years ago and had a great time. If you love the sequel, you should definitely check it out!
The Milkman Conspiracy was my favourite level in the original game and it's the one people seem to remember most fondly. It's hard to compare it with the stories told in the sequel, but Psychonauts 2 has some very memorable levels that reveal a lot about the characters. I touch upon this briefly - while trying to avoid spoilers - in my review.
It Takes Two is a lot of fun (I still need to finish playing it) but I don't find the main characters anywhere near as likeable as Raz & co. Different strokes for different folks I guess - as you said, they're both great games!
@343_Guilty_Spark - I couldn't agree more. Ratchet and Clank is great too and looks incredible, but Psychonauts 2 has the edge for me. As you said, it's really well-written and the characters are wonderful!
As a PlayStation gamer, I can appreciate the Xbox strategy even if I don't like it. I'm really looking forward to playing Deathloop tonight. However, if and when Deathloop 2 comes out in years to come, Xbox Game Pass will no doubt offer it for free while those who loved the first game on PlayStation 5 might not be able to play it at all.
Agreed, they're one of the best adventure game studios of all time.
Such a shame. It sounds like Skully has too many problems to recommend, but the screenshots look great.
"This game could have easily been a 10/10 for me, but being a purely story driven game my final score will have to be a 6.5/10.” This is terrible reviewing/writing. It's seemingly implying that any 'purely story driven game' cannot receive a high score.
"A good writer leads the audience’s thoughts, not force them to wallow in his catharsis." This doesn't even make sense, grammatically or otherwise. Sigh.
Glad you agree that the story isn't conventional! The multiple viewpoints were an integral part of the overall experience and I particularly enjoyed seeing Ellie from a different perspective. It would have been so much easier - and more commercially viable - to make a sequel telling a basic story of good versus evil, but I'm glad Naughty Dog went the extra mile to create something truly special.
Nicely put. I actually think it works even better only finding out about Jerry in the sequel. When Joel killed him, he wasn't thinking about anyone else but Ellie. Dealing with the consequences in the sequel gives the ending of the original game even more weight.
I struggle to understand how anyone can think The Last of Us Part II is 'pretty standard' to be honest - and I certainly felt challenged on an emotional level. Hopefully once you've completed the game it will all come together for you like you said.
What is the 'daily common social controversial theme' you mentioned?
Also, not everyone was pissed after playing it, that's a bit of a sweeping statement. You obviously didn't like the game (which I'm genuinely sorry to hear), but to say Naughty Dog didn't 'put too much brains into creating the story' isn't true; it's quite clear the team put a significant amount of time and effort into creating the story they wanted to tell.
I'm so pleased that you enjoyed reading my write-up about The Last of Us Part II - thank you for your kind words. Please feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of the article on my website if you have the inclination/time; I'd love to hear your thoughts (particularly about the ending)!
Thanks for commenting. I think the small retcon in relation to the surgeon (Jerry) worked really well - every NPC enemy Joel and Ellie killed would have friends/family in real life (something Naughty Dog has tried to convey more effectively in the sequel), and killing Abby's father was arguably worse because he wasn't a soldier and was one of the few people who could develop a vaccine.
For what it's worth, I found Alan Wake 2 manageable even though it has a fair few jump scares. It's scary, but the story is compelling enough to push past the fear!
