As the author - I can confirm the use of "Royal We"; my apologies for the missed inference.

You strike the best point that I hoped to convey myself - loot boxes have been abused as a manner of generating income and dependence upon RNG, where games you'd referenced (Borderlands 2 being a prime example) swung the pendulum the other way. I followed every Tweet from Randy (Pitchford) in hopes of getting those golden keys as often as possible to grab some super-lo...

Interesting that there seems to be a return of the Sim-genre games after a bit of a lull, only to find some extra competition within the niche. EuroTruck Simulator, Farming Simulator, American Truck Simulator, etc., and now Real Farm Sim comes in swinging with their nomenclature alone - *REAL* Farm Sim aims to set itself apart before you even see a second detail.

Respectfully, are you commenting strictly on the article's existence on N4G or on the content of the article itself? If you're drawing comparisons between this article and others on the site, you're completely entitled to your opinion that there may be a swarm of like-minded content. If, however, you aren't commenting on the content of the article, I'd advise you give it a quick read through before lumping it into the same pile as others you seem to be condemning.

Using Xbox as an example - they're making money hand over fist in a piecemeal fashion. They get all their Xbox Live Gold revenue, a piece of digital sales through their storefront, physical sales via licensing agreements/publishing rights, and a minor (but not inconsequential) amount through advertising games and media/services in a handful of places within the Xbox OS / storefronts.

If you're talking strictly about IPs that contribute to their overall success, sure...

Respectfully, Sony had its opportunity to do just that. Both MS and Sony geared up to release a pro/premium version of their current-gen consoles, as the processing power of the PS4/XB1 didn't closely match the golden standards put forth in PC gaming. This is a chance for them to use similar architecture with beefier specs that allow the existing games/engines to work on them, all the while offering a better option for the hardcore gaming crowd that expected more. The author's focusin...

You're probably right - I mean, we're only a few short days away from the E3 before Scorprio's launch; Microsoft would be brain-dead to focus on current-system offerings alone. That said, there are some games in the works that are probably too tentative to really demonstrate a solid, console-driving product as of yet. I'd be surprised if we didn't see stuff like The Witcher / Fallout / Minecraft (why?) / Mass Effect all getting 4K/Scorpio support.

It may have been a doomed product, but many of its owners remember it fondly as a step away from what was then considered the norm for a console. You have to admit that it did have a number of innovations, but failed to gain as much traction as was needed to see it succeed.

I'm pretty sure this is what the author meant; potentially great hardware, potential game-changing console power, but still at risk of falling victim to a software (games) catalogue that drives the ...

I think it's a little brazen to call the author a PS fanboy simply because he's worried about the future of what's purported to be the most powerful console yet. Loads of people own both PS4/XB1, and even though I consider myself an Xbox fanboy (only consoles I've owned since my N64 were the three generations of Xbox), I, too, am a little worried about the console's future. I can't see the case where I'd count myself a Sony fanboy, either, simply as a point of cont...

Not 'ruined', and certainly not my plans - Microsoft's. I've had a number of discussions over the years with friends, colleagues, or other gamers in general; some of the launch-window features that were in the works had some great potential (such as sharing digital games with friends/family), but cutbacks in one respect would eventually affect another. My opinion is that Microsoft (had to) remove a number of features because the community at large was not ready to transition i...
