If sony did cut the price to a similar level as the 360 then everyone knows that the xbox360 would die...
sony being the big global company that it is likes having microsoft as competition and therefore doesnt want to turn the green DreamCast style machine into a flop
this in turn stops microsoft from releasing their next console be it the xbox720 or whatever too early into the PS3's lifecycle

xbox has 512mb of shared ram
ps3 has 256 of graphics and 256 of main ram
same ammount of ram

the problem is that most dev's are lazy and dont quite know how to use the SPE's so most games end up running emulation for the 360's code
