The power of a system usually doesn't have anything to do with developing for it. Most developers haven't jumped on the wii u because the install base isn't high enough for them to feel comfortable with it. Also the other two consoles of this generation aren't even out yet. If I was a developer I would wait for all the next gen consoles to come out to see which one my games would actually sell on.
I still can't see why everyone is so ignorant around here. The wii u has around 1.5-2x the potential of these past generation consoles and nobody even knows what 50% of its graphics card even does. Its also amazing that people are judging this system based on its ports of last generation software. I guess we'll just have to wait for e3 and for nintendo to show the software they've been developing before people actually realize this.
While you do make very good point I just have to point out that the legend of zelda was considered to be a non-cartoony open world game up until around the time the gamecube came out. I'm sure plenty of people remember ocarina of time and a link to the past as such. In fact both of the n64 zeldas dodged a T rating just barely when they were released.
I'm sorry if seem a bit too aggressive in my wording. There is no doubt that Nintendo will have a tough time with this generation. I'm merely saying that people shouldn't count their chickens before they hatch. Anyway, this upcoming generation of consoles should be able to support any of the upcoming game engines. The game engines currently being developed will most likely be very scalable. It is also very true that the next playstation and xbox will have more visually appealing g...
Also anyone who disagrees with me should check out the alpha footage for Shadow of the Eternals
The Wii U's hardware capabilities are not on par with the generation of consoles that started in 2006. It has around 1.5-2X the capabilities then our current consoles and yet people down play that and condemn it to a dark corner. It may not be nearly as impressive in terms of computing power as the systems microsoft and sony have yet to release, but a console is only as good as it's software. All of these next gen consoles will have unique software due to their unique hardware, they j...
I actually think that this would be a bad idea. I also like the gamepad as it is now, its better then any other controller on the market in my opinion. The resolution may be low but its not like it's supposed to be the main screen of a game unless you are using it for off tv play. The only flaw I can find with it is the battery life. I still don't see why people think its a bad device, do you having any reasoning for your opinion on it?
But not everything uses Direct x. Direct x is a Microsoft API. Realistically the only thing using Direct x will be the new Xbox or whatever they decide to call it. Sony and Nintendo will probably use something equivalent to it, or opengl. Direct x pretty much has nothing to do with any of this.
Yes it is indeed more powerful but at this point nobody has really done anything to prove that yet. All developers are making for the Wii u are ports of current gen games. Most likely these games aren't optimized to play to the WiiU's strengths and the developers are only making use of the 1gb of ram.
I'm pretty sure the Nintendo 64 was one of the most important consoles in history. Seeing as Nintendo was the first big publisher to popularize 3-d gaming.
That system also had some of the highest rated games ever made. "blown out of the water" is not a phrase I would use to describe it. If console sales are the only important factor that you see you may want to look at the quality of games on the systems.
I'd have to agree with you on everything but your first point. At this point Nintendo can't afford to to make a "high spec" system they would just lose too much money if they did.
All of the other points are spot on though. They really need the marketing and software support at the moment.
Well actually if we reintroduced cartridges we could eliminate a high amount of loading times because with flash storage the read time is much lower. However, a flash storage device would probably cost twice as much money to produce which would cut into profits.
I will agree that the Wii U is lacking in terms of power, and I was a bit disappointed in it but, saying that its barely powerful enough to port 360/ps3 games is a very long stretch. It has around as much power as a midrange pc where as the other consoles will be upper-mid or lower-high range technology. Most likely lower-high range but, anything game that developers make at this point could be scaled to run on any next gen console.
A lot of pc gamers have consoles so they can play first party games. All consoles have great first party games. Some of these people prefer to have a Nintendo console because they find them to have more unique games then other consoles. Some of those people will buy a Sony console due to their great first party games. The same goes for Microsoft. I don't see why gamers should be restricted to just a pc or just one console.
I guess I did state this earlier but people seem to be ignoring the fact he stepped down from his previous position and is developing a new ip as we speak. Also companies have to make money you know, that's why sequels exist pretty much. Its very challenging to make a new ip, you have to consider whether it will tank or not. Honestly I haven't seen a creative new ip from anyone in a while, excluding journey.
But, he is making a new game, that's why he stepped down from head of nintendo EAD.
Well actually its been redone once, twice if you count masterquest but that was not fully released until the 3ds. However it has been ported 3 times(one of those times being a windwaker preorder bonus. Honestly that's not that ridiculous. The only time they marketed a port was for the 3ds. However I do agree with your main point they should be focused on making new games. But I don't blame them for not, everytime they do make a new game noone talks about it at all.
I was pretty disappointed up until they announced watch dogs coming to the wiiu. I still think it would have gone better for them if they didn't delay the game. However it is good that they are giving Nintendo their support.
@admiralvic
My comment appears to be misjudged. I am not suggesting Nintendo games are good only because they are on their own system, but it is a contributing factor. If they start making games on other systems it will take them longer to get used to the hardware. They will eventually get used to newer hardware but the reason they make hardware is so that they can make games the way they want to.

Except if you read that digital foundry article and the link to the neogaf forums that they got their information from, you might have read plenty of comments on the neogaf forum(after the article was published) regarding that digital foundry had no idea what they were talking about and that they probably had in no way paid attention to what half the people on the forums were stating. You can't compare clock speeds of cores with different architectures.
