umm, he's the combat designer from the first game and the combat in Hellblade was unsatisfying, rote, and EXTREMELY repetitive repetitive on hard! Worth taking this with a hefty dose of salt.

Let's hope that his craft has improved and he understands how to add challenge through mechanics, timing, movesets, and telegraphing~ rather than just sponging the the health and 1-2 hit KOing with enemy damage.

I'm pretty amazed that people aren't mo...

regardless of the minimal tech differences between the two systems, if you have both platforms and are deciding between I would wholly recommend the PS5 version. The dual sense is some of the best 3rd party integration I've seen~ it's used in everything, in subtle ways. You can feel the rumble of an engine that's nearby, or the wheel of the car hitting the shoulder to alert you like IRL, or feel the gust of air if you're running across the street and have a near miss with a fa...

haha totally agree. Horizon is by far the worst offender for 'perfect key lighting' on characters that I've ever seen~ and the first game was just as bad. The characters are always photo-studio-perfect lit with key lighting, in a way that makes them obviously feel out of place from the world. Personally, I actually quite enjoy it in the cut scenes and find it much more immersion-breaking when I'm just running around the world, obviously being followed by an invisible (and perf...

I play on OLED on PS5 and was put off by the performance mode on this game. After playing on PS5 for more than a year, this is the first game where I'm playing on resolution mode and not performance mode. But to be frank, the resolution mode is excellent and feels like the best way to experience the game. For me, the issue with the performance mode isn't just about the shimmering, but the the graphics as a whole (lighting especially!) just make the performance mode feel like playing a...

The core gameplay was fun, but became stale very quickly. The writing, characters, and world were mediocre to average. The sales were lacking. The critics weren’t impressed. Given the budget and development time for this title, Sony would be insane to greenlight the sequel. I don’t understand the upset, or the shock at this very rational decision by Sony, smh

Yikes.

Spoken like a person that has no real working understanding of the Chinese government or the oppression its citizens are subject to. As an expat living in the US I agree that this place is a far cry from perfect, but to suggest that US and Chinese authorities are alike shows a lack of understanding both for China's politics and for the benefits of America's ideals of freedom.

Before rebuking and backing up your claim in this thread, consid...

The real negative for the Quest 2 IMO is the requirement of a Facebook account connection in order to operate the device. We are for sure agreed on that, @Lord. However, I'd suggest that it's the only drawback.

I'm not a fan of Facebook, but for accuracy I want to mention that the IPD adjustment issues you've mentioned are non-existent. The Quest 2 officially supports IPD ranges from 61mm to 6mm, which is roughly equivalent as supporting 95% of adult IPDs. I...

This is exactly how I feel too! I personally just also find characters with this focus pretty flat and boring. By this, I mean I can already empathize with the wild-ness of the fantasy on display – give me a character that has other compelling motivations.

I really hope they tone that aspect down, as I could even see myself passing on it altogether if it doesn't turn out to just be standard trailer fluff.

I was just thinking exactly this. Devs' legal teams will need to be careful of clauses surrounding new on-demand streaming platforms for delivery, because if the recent Scarlet vs Disney lawsuit is anything to go by (which it absolutely is) GP downloads will not be included in sales totals and these services will act as a way for publishers to screw the hardworking devs out of their remuneration. Just think about the facts~ we know the player total estimates, but SE claim that the game is...

I played Days Gone and loved it. The core gameplay loop is compelling, and a lot of fun. However, protagonist Deacon is by far the weakest part of the package and IMO one of the biggest reasons the game didn’t resonate with a large enough audience to secure a sequel.

Deacon is a bland, static character who comes across as a poorly written stereotype of a straight white male. His entire identity can ostensibly be summed up as ‘protector of women’, which -aside from the probl...

Yikes. Zenimax I get, sure. They’re a massive and hugely financially successful umbrella company with some critically acclaimed franchises to boot.

But Ninja Theory?? Lmao. The best thing they have going for them is that they get confused with the more talented and compelling Team Ninja. Have Ninja Theory ever made any great games? The only ones that I’m aware of are heavenly sword and hell blade ~ both incredibly mediocre games that don’t hold a candle to any of HMQs contr...

Everything about this game looks superb, except the animations, which seem to be an order of magnitude lower in quality than every other technical and artistic aspect. The animations look stiff and unnatural in a way that doesn't feel deliberately stylized but that seems to disregard overlapping action animation principles. It feels very jarring to see in motion.

"Look, just play Avalanche's Mad Max game from 2015 instead. It does everything Days Gone does, but with a sense of humour, a wasteland that's actually worth exploring, and you get to be the road warrior Max Rockatansky instead of a sad, mumbling biker in a backwards baseball cap."

Lol in the final summary he cleared up all my issues with this game. Looks like I'll be playing Mad Max XD

Don't believe what you hear about how long a run takes in Returnal. I just finished it again last night to get the secret ending, and the whole run took 45m, tops. Probably closer to 35.

They’re generally not as bright as LED however, and not as power efficient. So there’s some trade-offs to make them work as a handheld. Given Nintendo’s focus on gross hardware margins I don’t expect that they’re willing to invest in adequately solving these problems, which will likely manifest as worse battery life and a slightly (15%) harder screen to see in daylight.
