that's true, and even still, the ps3 version had slightly lower resolution normal maps, but that was mostly a result of having less available video ram to work with.

Graphics are nowhere near as great as those in Gears 1, and Gears 2 already looks leagues better than the original.
The gameplay is OK, but felt too random. There was no structure or strategy to anything. Too many players. Felt like an old PC game with 60 guys running around.
Looks like Gears is still king of the MP arena.

Very true. I've seen all the HD videos of both games. While R2 does look good, there's just no comparison. Everyone knows it, but some fanboys pretend they don't.
