Why would it be stupid exactly? Naughty Dog have never ruined a IP before, they have only improved. They know what they are doing. If they choose to continue it, Im all for it.

They said that they dont know if they will return or not. Neil Druckmann has said that he loves Ellie and Joel as characters and is trying to figure out if he can continue their story. Personally, I hope they return!

Its not a fact, They even said in a Q&A that they are not sure if they will return or not. Neil Druckmann did say that he loves those characters, and is trying to come up with ideas to continue their story. Look it up if you dont believe me.
Please keep Ellie and Joel as the main characters. Playing as different characters just wouldn't be the same, especially for a person like me who loves TLOU.
That would be amazing. Although, I think it will be Uncharted 4 first, then TLOU2 followed by the new IP.
