Both sides are as bad as each other, to be honest. As bad as it is that Betas/Demos are being used as marketing tools now, Fergusson is right - gamers DO treat even 'real' betas as a representative of the finished product, and completely miss the point of what a beta is.
So it's no surprise that devs are too scared to hold real betas anymore when we have gamers who make buy or no buy decisions based off early builds.
You know what's funny? The amount of people who slammed this review and yet didn't read it. "Did not give site hits."
You accuse people of rushing the game or not playing it properly, based on a review that you yourselves haven't even read properly, you've only looked at an arbitrary number. For reviewers to do what you guys are doing right now, they would be reviewing the game based on the box art or something.
The sheer epic qualit...
It very well could be a new IP, a new IP would be most welcome, provided it isn't tired or cliche.
I'm just saying, that gun looks an awful lot like the Sniper Rifle from ME.
The gun looks consistent with the style of the Sniper Rifle from Mass Effect. Granted, it doesn't look exactly the same but it has the same features, just in different proportions and style.
They did a change in art direction for Dragon Age, I don't think it's implausible for them to do the same for Mass Effect.
The only reason why there wasn't a PS3 version already in the works is because Cyanide haven't done a PS3 game before, ever. It was a bit of a risk for them, and so they'd rather wait and see how things go first.
They're a bit of a niche developer, so they've never really made the big bucks before I don't think. It's better to keep costs down and just stick to what you know.
Whilst the article said that the picture was an 'artists impression', they never said it was real - so you've entirely missed the point.
However, the lack of sources, or even the lack of information regarding the event itself, brings into question all of this anyway...
That's been true in the past, but this trailer was defintly made using pre-rendered CGI.
Perhaps some of the street level shots maybe, but i don't think much of this was in-game graphics.
Yes, well that's the problem when dealing with an announcement like this, everything becomes out of date so quickly.
Keep track of the story on Talk Xbox though, as we will be updating it as we go. And I'm pretty sure we found it before Joystiq did...I'm just slow :P
You are right in that sense tin, most of the story does take place in-between levels, and i believe I actually mentioned in the review that i felt this could have been done more the way Mass Effect was done.
I think what really won it for me though was the concept and the vision. I'll admit, I'm a story-buff - If this has been released as a book it would have been great. I think my praise of the story was also based slightly on the potential it had to develop into a solid plot in...
Hello everyone,
My name is Joe, and i'm the author of the review you have just read. Pleasure to meet you all.
I'd just like to say thank you to all the people who have been generally supportive of my article. To those of you who haven't - fair enough, i respect your opinion. If i had more time, I might have actually mentioned in my review that this game may not be for everyone but alas, i was pushing the word limit as it was.
I will object to one thing...
I'm sorry you guys didn't like my review.
In my defence, especially RE: #5 - yes, I comment on how much you die, but I HAVE played Demon souls so I was expecting that.
I was just dissapointed that it wasn't as meaninful in Dark Souls as it was in Demon Souls.
But hey, I'd still recommend you get this game, as I did enjoy playing through it.
