Was kinda hoping this would be a dual interview. I'm sad that every site that has reviewed this game has done so from a solo perspective. It should really be reviewed by two people!

Oh Ben, may you never change. Gotta love your unending need to poke the bear ;)

It's so weird that Q4 2017 was largely a fight between Xbox One and Switch. It was PS4 and Switch Q1-Q3, but PS4 must have just been content to sit things out at the end of the year.

I disagree. Although the PS4 has done an incredible job this year overall, it had no noteworthy exclusives in Q4 this year. It's best games were Q1-Q3. It also couldn't hold onto it's title as most powerful console in Q4 either.

Obviously. Making AAA games is very expensive. Yet gamers only pay $60 for them. That's not nearly enough. There needs to be a system that allows devs to make more money off players even after the game is released so they can make up the sunk cost. It's either microtransactions, or raise the price of games to $80-90.

This. This right here is probably the best system we could hope for. It's not perfect, but it's certainly better than what Battlefront II was initially doing.

Agreed

No it isn't, but neither is Overwatch the other example I used.

But wouldn't you say there's a RIGHT way and a WRONG way to use them? People don't seem to mind the loot crates in Assassins Creed Origins or Overwatch (or most free to play games for that matter). So if they are going to be in Battlefront II, let's help EA make sure they do it the RIGHT way.

I disagree. I think Free to Play games use microtransactions incredibly well. Have 98% of players play for free and the rich 2% (the whales) supporting the game so developers don't starve and the game can keep releasing content.

So microtransactions CAN be good. EA just needs to find a way to bend them so they fit into a AAA FPS experience. I think Overwatch does a good job with it. EA should look to Blizzard.

Really hoped Sonic was gonna wow as much as Mario and Zelda this year...alas...

You COULD argue that they have done it with Star Fox with Star Fox 2 on the SNES Classic. It's not the strongest argument, but I'm sure it's one that Nintendo is more than willing to make.

Pretty sure you've hit the nail on the head. Won't be surprised if you're exactly right.

Yeah, but it was at least on PS3 and Vita from the start. This sequel is just on PS4 at the start. I know the game will reach other systems eventually, but it was still a bad idea for the game to not launch on both the PS4 and Vita at the same time.

I couldn't agree with you more. I wanted to play The Evil Within 2 soooo bad, but I was finishing up a bunch of games on my back log, and by the time I was done I had to jump into the maelstrom we're in right now. Maybe after Christmas? Idk...did you play it? Was it good?

The parkour was so bad. Just so bad. I really hope Ubisoft takes the next 4 months to fix it/make it more intuitive.

The combat isn't all the bad. It's definitely a step up from previous AC games. However, everything else is exactly the same. If you liked previous games, you'll probs like Origins. If you didn't, you should skip this one and hope Ubisoft does better next year.

I almost said the exact same thing when I booted up the demo, but one of the Ubisoft devs was standing right behind me and I didn't want to offend. I'm hoping a massive graphical and gameplay boost happens in the next 4 months, but I'm not holding my breath.

I wasted a good 15 minutes trying to figure out how to traverse the world while playing at E3. It's not intuitive at all. I would have been okay with that if the free running had become more responsive, but I still ran off of buildings or struggled to climb a cliff. So free running is the same as ever, just with worse controls.

The combat really wasn't all that special when I played it. It's certainly a step above the other AC games, but it's nothing gamers haven't seen from other games before.
