Valve's business model is to provide best value for their software. They commonly update their games for years after release. Team Fortress 2 is a great example. PC side has multiple updates over the years, xbox none. Why? Because MS wants to charge for it, like they did on L4D. It was free for PC, 560 points on xbox. They should be congratulated for moving to a platform open enough to allow their business model.
And for MS leveraging Windows dominance to destroy v...
Sony knew when it choose the cell that its architecture would make it difficult to port software with other systems, they did it on purpose. It worked wonders for the ps2, keeping many games exclusive or at least having the superior version on the ps2. However, when you are no longer the leader, it works against you.
It's a shame too, I think ps3 is the best value.
No way I buy the 2011. Isn't there another football game coming out next year?
All that is true but you are also forgetting the cost of the custom hard drive. With games getting larger and larger and not having blue-ray games will need to be installed to disk, and $179 to upgrade to 120 GB is ridicules.
Someone will use it sometime. Remember it is cutting edge and won't be mainstream for a couple of years.
was probably spent on the engine, which they will license out to others. In the end they'll make their money.
people who can spell light as "light", not "lite"? I mean for comments spelling mistakes are OK, but to be accepted as a true writing the author has to do better than this.
Motion plus or not, sword fighting requires something that motion controls can't give - the ability to parry. You know, when swords clash. The ability to defend yourself with your own sword. Maybe they can have the swords go through each other, but that is really weak. We will be waiting a long time for a real sword fighting game.
Just imagine if a virus infects all the xboxs online. They probably think it is not worth the risk, and they may be right. If a console did get infected, could it be cleaned without just reformatting the disk? No doubt they are missing functionality, but user generated content is a double edge sword.
is that now everything needs to be installed to the hard drive. For the ps3 it is because of disk access speed, for the xbox it is because of DVD space limitation.
The real problem for the 360 is the 20G hard drive most users own, and the fact you can not upgrade for a reasonable price, or without the hassle of transferring your saved game data. Even 120G sounds a little small for the future.
The ps3's real advantage is larger drive space, ease of upgrade, and no...
I'd talk up the console too.
1) It makes the people who own the console think it is optimized for just their console.
2) It indirectly talks up their game by talking up the console
3) The only people you piss off can't buy your game anyways.
Why not talk up the console? Worked great for MGS4.
EB has a habit of taking warranty replacements, swapping out a new unit, then sending it back to MS a "defective". My EB did that with mine. I know because the manager said I couldn't get the free games when swapping out the premium and that "he shouldn't be doing this anymore".

I am a programmer that has done multi-threaded programming. All your benchmarks are based upon the best case scenario for the cell. They involve highly recursive and distributable tasks. Unfortunately, not all tasks scale that well.
If the right game, lets say chess, is made the cell would rule. This is because it is easy to break the analysis down into pieces. I am not a game programmer, but I think a game like DMC4 is not broken down as easily. The cell does have grea...
This is a strange promotion. All this would do is encourage MW3 players to try battlefield and if they don't like it, trade it in. BF3 would still get their money, makes no sense to me.
