Very interesting comments on The Wolf Among Us. Didn't expect TellTale to have that type of impact on casuals but it makes sense the more I think about it.
I know that Origins may not represent an evolution for the Arkham series but I don't see that as a bad thing. Both games thus far are two of my favorites ever. I was more concerned personally that WB Montreal would depart from the aspects that made the series great. Instead, they focused on story and characters while maintaining a formula that has proven to be compelling. Works for me.
Where was the vitriol on the other products? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the exclusion of one particular product incited 'Fanboys', used as a general term to describe irrational devotion not normal fans of a product, to litter the page with vulgarity. And that behavior is an issue the gaming community faces at large and this just happened to be the stage in this instance.
In all seriousness, if Nintendo was to get into this race they would dominate it or at least provide some serious competition to Disney/Activision. It seems the WiiU is already custom made for this type of project.
It is just too bad that they missed such a golden opportunity to do it right at the outset and have to rebuild the bridge they spent years creating (not without hiccups). I like where they are headed though and hope that some of the innovation will eventually occur within time as the dust settles from the poor job they did announcing the console.
It's not that this isn't a valid point and there definitely need to be optimizations made. However, consumers have shown a general unwillingness to purchase underwhelming experiences.
That said, regardless of development costs there are fixed costs for physical media (logistics, retail support, life-cycle management) that do not mesh well with the gaming industry in my opinion.
Well, those are opinions, maybe even some good ones, but hardly facts.
Hey all, author here :) Having worked with Microsoft for years on retail marketing, user campaigns etc. They have given me reason to hope and perhaps deserve better than all the negativity being thrown at them.
Facts: Xbox One will play games and play them well. Publisher support is right where it has been for the 360 if not higher.
Nothing has been confirmed about used trade-in fees or online only restrictions. Kinect "spyware" is also speculativ...
Tough read and very brave.
I dig my Vita, haven't really given it that much time but I am hoping that the integration with the PS4 down the road will give it a nice boost in worth.
Reading the article it doesn't appear that he is saying gameplay isn't important or that marketing is the barometer of what makes a game great but more that in order to be successful from a sales perspective it needs the right type of marketing support. Fairly simple.
What I love about this game perhaps more than any other RPG is that it will be inherently watchable. I could actually just sit and watch my friends play this and have just as good of a time than actually having the controller in hand.
Sounds like more than just fan service but an actual creative extension similar to the movie that fits perfectly in the South Park universe.
