Guys... remember the Wii U has a GPGPU? Completely new hardware for a console, and one that developers haven't learnt to utilise in conjunction to a system yet? Just sayin'.
What does a touchscreen have anything to do with the console's power?
Besides, the GamePad works completely fine using a finger alone, from everything I've heard from friends and other journalists using it. Even a few Zombi U gameplay vids have shown players using their finger instead of a stylus on the touchscreen, and it was flawless.
Capacitative touchscreens are only useful for multi-touch use, and that's pretty much redundant in gaming; m...
@youfanboyscantstopme: You're an uneducated cretin if you truly believe graphical power is determined solely by supported resolution. The Wii U sports an AMD E6760 GPU (oh, and don't forget the new GPGPU too) and the capabilities of RAM also come into play, and the Wii U has 2GB of it; that's more than eight times that of the PS3 (256MB), and quadruple that of the Xbox 360 (512MB). And half of that is dedicated solely to games - what does that tell you?
This inc...
It's certainly not a tech demo, and has much more depth to it than people care to realise. It's actually a blast to play, but your interpretation depends on how you play it.
IIRC, Chandra from ONM told me they spent 15 hours on each mini-game and carried out proper multiplayer tests, hence the score. It's much more than a compilation of mini-games.
You omitted the essential part:
"...But over the years Nintendo have shown that raw processing and graphics power aren't everything. And I think a lot of gamers are starting to see that too." - Tom Crago, CEO of Straight Right.
Here's another perspective, from another interview on the same site:
"I think if we're going to learn one thing from the upcoming next generation of consoles than it is the fact that te...
Is that so? Then riddle me this: why is the 3DS currently outselling the Vita with an extreme ratio of 39:1 over the course of one week? The 3DS sold 721,000 units in Japan this week and that was with the release of one high-profile title alone.
No doubt, the Vita is an impressive device, but the 3DS has a much more vast solid line-up of games to cater to its highly varied installed base. That's the essential factor of its appeal in the market. Sony have next to no idea...
I think some naysayers forget that the PS3 launched for $600.
Uh, no, you don't. Consumers can judge whether or not they feel a product is worth its value from its price in conjunction to its performance. It's a matter of opinion - and loads of people seem to share the same opinion on the Wii U's price-point, given its stupendously high pre-order figures.
Me? I wasn't even here when the whole "CoD in 1080p" fiasco was going down. I didn't exactly believe it either. Besides, a reason wasn't given as to why this is and most of the fault has been noted to be on the developer's side. Nobody has said the Wii U isn't capable of native 1080p at 60FPS, and if you were intelligent enough to decipher what we know about the console's tech specs so far and how the Wii U operates, you'd know that this is extremely poss...
With Miiverse as an actively social game diary, an achievements system on the Wii U is primitively redundant. They're superficial integrations now, and have made a complete mockery of competitive gaming.
They mean the current technology and tools at our dispense, hence why we need to avoid another extensive upgrade in consoles.
Rayman Legends, Trine 2, Skylanders Giants, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Ninja Gaiden 3, Puddle and Toki Tori 2 have been said to be running at native 1080p on the Wii U, and quite a handful of those were also confirmed to be running at 60FPS. Plus, take note that these are launch titles.
Trine 2: Director's Cut, Puddle, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, FIFA 13, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Mass Effect 3: Special Edition, Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition and Aliens: Colonial Marin...
With Miiverse as an actively social game diary, an achievements system on the Wii U is primitively redundant. Achievements have become one of the most shallow system integrations in gaming, and are now tactical diversions. If you're truly set on sharing in-game achievements, use an interactive gaming community network. Miiverse is perfect.
Nintendo has probably issued all media/press a notice against attempting that.
Sigh. Author of this article here. Alright, I can see that at least half the people in this section hardly bothered to even read the article, so let me lay it down simply enough for all of you here.
First and foremost, this isn't a "click me" article to whatever cretins here lack the understanding of what an opinion article is. If you read it, you'd actually see that I invested a wealth of reasoning into this from what is my own perspective.
And the problem here is...? If you're serious about digital retail on the Wii U, you're certainly going to be using an external HDD, not a mere SD card. The Wii U doesn't have a limit for external storage (unlike current-gen consoles), so it's not a problem. I can find a 1TB HDD for around £60 nowadays.
Besides, running games of SD cards on consoles isn't very efficient. They'll only be useful for transfer data, DLC, game saves and the like.
Good luck spending $600+ on an extensively-upgraded consoles, and an $800+ TV to appreciate the absurdly huge upgrade of prime graphic technology. Oh, and you'll need it trying to get a substantial amount of companies to develop their games on that kind of ridiculous console.
Here's an idea! How about next-gen consoles showing true advancement using mainly intuition/innovation instead of ridiculous expense? Or is that a foreign concept to most of you?
And then people'll turn around and accuse Nintendo of lacking innovation.
Newsflash: The GamePad is not just an accident that magically appeared alongside the Wii U. Nintendo made it, and obviously has plans of incorporating it into games in a creative and intuitive way that enhances gameplay experience; it's not for the convenience of having an in-hand inventory menu.

He never said this. Don't alter things to your taste when quoting an article.
