This might be a bit off topic but, believe it or not... I actually bought the vita just to play the first Project Diva f. The second one is one of my highest anticipated games for the vita...

Still, I had a great time with this game. This was one of those games where I could invite a huge group of friends and we would all just go mental. I remember completely dominating one match as Drake and then laughing like a mad man when bringing out the gatling gun.

I can vouch that you really don't require any amount of Japanese knowledge at all to 'play' the game properly. The tutorial is straight forward and the general layout of the menus are intuitive, thanks to the symbols they use. Plus, there's a menu translation on Project Diva wikispaces.
The only areas which the language barrier might get you would be possibly be the AR and...

It's a difficult question to answer honestly.
One reason might be because WOW, or games in general, work as an escape from reality. Rather than deal with a potential cause of stress a person might turn towards games to forget about the problem. The thing is... The problem won't go away. It eventually grows and compounds itself. As more numerous causes of stress crop up, a person might feel compelled to play more and more as a form of escapism.

Agreed, it's very much dependent on the context in which the term is used. For example when my friends say I'm gamer, I feel either proud or next to nothing. But when I meet an elder and they ask me whether I 'still' game... I know exactly what they're implying with that expression.

Not sure about Japan... But here in Malaysia the support for psvita games is rather low. I hounded three Sony Centre's and a bunch of retail shops a few days after its release and not even one carried a single copy. Most of the retailers don't even know what it is, even two of the Sony outlet attendants were clueless... Needless to say, I was quite amused.

I think, when it was initially announced, the platform was for the psp. It's only more recent info which confirms it is for the vita as well. Though that by itself is no proof for either console being the main platform, so don't take my word on it :S
That aside, its looking quite decent. Also... Am I the only one who thinks that the character in the second screenshot is Kota's kid sister? It's only been three years though...

Should you try a game from the final fantasy series? By all means, do so. Especially if you like JRPG's.
That said, Final fantasy 14 here... Is an MMO, which is kind of a whole new bag of tricks in itself. The game does have a free trial on pc, so perhaps you might want to give it a go first before you decide to fully commit.
