So i'll be able to write my own engine and access the developer network on web and Xbox Live? Seriously you will not get 100% development kit features. Currently the 360 has Debug, Test and Development Kit models. There is a difference between them.

Retail console with the update will have close similarity to a full capable development unit but they won't function the same in terms of freedom when developing. If you still believing in this ask yourself why would EA,Ubisoft and other big publishers pay for a hefty developer license and development equipment? I don't know much of future plans with Unity but at Build they said they were gonna open for devs who wanted to develop for the Windows store. Currently to acquire a console/platform license with Unity you have to be a registered developer and you need a development kit. Like I've said maybe they will change thier policies but quite frankly I don't see big Engine names like CryEngine 3 or Frostbite opening to the public and I highly doubt it you can write your own engine without a...

Alright, I just had to register here to just say one thing regarding this news. Differences between Xbox One Development kit and retail console :

*The development kit will run unsigned code
*Retail, wont

Basically Microsoft will provide anyone who is interested in this program a base with tools for VS and you can develop games and publish just like in the Windows 8 store. No you can't use licensed engines if you don't have a developer license....
