Tlou2 DID have a message: to beat us over the head with a nonsensical story about forgiveness in a world of absolute ruthlessness. Preachy boring trash compared to the first game.
"it's okay to not like a game that you don't think is great" -There. I fixed the title.
Nobody said any of that. You're projecting
Gameplay-wise the Tomb Raider reboot games have a somewhat comparable stealth and crafting system. There's no horror though. And the plot isn't particularly emotional or heavy on any particular controversial themes. Nor does it have the same level of production value.
nobody asked for it to be a happy ending or story. The first game wasn't happy nor eas the ending. And even the aithor of the article didn't even accuse naysayers of hating the game merely because it didn't have a happy story. You're the only one who made that up. A contrived made-up accusation against those who had their own legitimate contrivances with this game. Your statement lacks in logic.
I don't have the burden of providing proof that Ellie didn't have forgiveness issues (especially since the first game never showed her as being [specifically] an unforgiving person. How do you prove that a character DOESN'T have an issue? If anything, the burden is on the writers and the writer of this article to provide proof that Ellie ever needed to have a lesson on forgiveness in the first place. Especially so much so that it was worth dragging this character into a second gam...
Doubting Joel and having issues with forgiveness are two different things
It's actually not that deep. Check out the comments in the website's page as there are some good counter arguments, and I also tried to give my own, but there are some better ones than I could even conjure. The article is essentially saying that Ellie's need to forgive Joel parallels the need to forgive Abby. But that's ridiculous because both Joel's death and the introduction of Abby's character were contrived just to make Ellie into this (out-of-character) person who...
Okay here's a quote from the article and why that writers interpretation is weak:
"And yet, in its own bleak way, The Last of Us Part 2 has a happy ending. The final shot of The Last of Us Part 2 is of Joel's guitar, the symbol of the unresolved differences between Joel and Ellie, left behind in the window. Ellie's future is uncertain as she departs the farm, having basically lost what amounts to her entire family. But after everything, at least now sh...
Disgaea, XCOM (though not from Japan), Fire Emblem, and Valkyria Chronicles all say "hello"
Then mind your f*cking business then
Ok but the first game already covered that. Why does the second game have to rehash the same thing but now on Ellie having to cope with loss? The second story didn't even need to exist (the way it was written) as it wasn't really a lesson that Ellie needed to learn until the writters just made up the need for her to need to learn it. In the first game Ellie was nothing like Joel--she didn't need a lesson on loss. If anything, in the first game she made it clear that she understoo...
I regret paying full price for TLOU2, and getting it digital. Now I can't sell it. The plot goes nowhere, it's every bit as pointless a story as the 80s movies Joel supposedly likes (according to Ellie). Nonstop revenge plot for a story that never needed to exist in the first place. If not for the Coronavirus, I never would have spent $60 on a digital version. Now i'm stuck with this game and I have zero interest in replaying it again. It dragged on for too long.
A simple google search isn't hard:

those are mere "moments". None of those push the plot forward. The only good [PLOT] parts were the minor moments u mentioned and the young ellie flashbacks.
It's a review/opinion piece, not news. So it [supposedly] being a tabloid doesn't matter in this situation. I also think the story is trash. Am I a tabloid?
Story? Really? Just beat it and there was very little development in Ellie or any other side characters, including Dina, Jessy, Abby, Levi etc. The plot was it's weakest point.
Hotabang, I think you have a skewed understanding of what edginess is. There isn't anything edgy about dressing like an everyday person. If anything, the over the top costumes of anime/jrpgs are trying to be edgy. This isn't a critique or me saying that one style is better than the other. I'm just not understanding how matrix style clothing is "edgy" in comparison to (for example) the loud costumes of Final Fantasy 14 or gothic lolita dress worn by a mercinary in Nier
It sure as hell isn't in the story writing, character development or dialog. Just gameplay, graphics and animation.
Yes a person can pretend to be cordial while being petty enough to press someone about their opinion. Anyone can pretend to be nice, but it's highly unusual for a professional to press a journalist/writer to argue about their views after a review.
