Not even then, Sonic Unleashed,Sonic Colors,Sonic Generations,Sonic Rush,Sonic Rush Adventure, Sonic Heroes (GC version was slippery but ps2/Xbox was fine)
Sonic Colors is better than most Mario games in my opinion. And I had way more fun in sonic 2 than any NES/SNES Mario.

According to their doc plan free maps and modes will be given out slowly. A lot like Killzone's plan actually, All the maps are free but cosmetics cost ya.
From what I understand you 1. Develop the game
2. You get and idea for content you're already 3/4 in the development cycle and the deadline is approaching 3. The extra content won't be done until a few months after the game is set to release
4. Make it paid DLC instead

Imo Sonic Colors was even better than the adventure titles minus story of course. They finally found a good formula for 3D sonic that people loved (Unleashed ,Colors,Generations) then for unknown reasons change it (Lost World) or shit on it (Boom)
Indies are doing fine, mid-tier games are coming back (Life isnstarnge, child of light ect...) I'm a pretty happy gamer these days except the budgeting in many AAA games are horrendous. If your game cost $100,000,000 then you're doing it very very wrong.
