Ultimately I thought the game was very ambitious with a graphically detailed and vibrant world. Sadly after achieving level 35 I got tired of fetch quests and decided it was time to start/continue the story and this is where FFXV falls flat on its face. It's a great game overall but the story is very lazily written and almost non-existent; the only Final Fantasy it manages to outperform story-wise is FFXIII.

I too have mixed feelings. FFVII: Crisis Core and FFXV are prime examples that Action-RPG works however I don't recall any fans in any significant quantity ever complaining about turn based. Personally I believe there should be two different development teams for Final Fantasy. Team 1 makes Action-RPG like Final Fantasy's and Team 2 under Hironobu Sakaguchi makes the more tradition turn-based that we all know and love.
I think Sony should buy:
Square-Enix - They are a treasure trove of JRPGs. Chrono Trigger, Legend of Mana, Final Fantasy, Xenogears, Vagrant Story, Kingdom Hearts, etc. While Square-Enix has some heavy hitters this gen they still are a shadow of their former selves. Hopefully a Sony purchase would shake things up.
Camelot Software - One of the best JRPGs of all time Golden Sun. Released on the Gameboy Advance it is one of the few games that can truly go toe ...
Hopefully they will add Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core as an end game+ option.
Since Crisis Core is a prequel and uses many of the same areas it shouldn't be that hard to add.

I am not saying FFXII was better than FFX. What I am saying is that in MANY ways it was better. I also said that in MANY ways it was a step BACKWARDS. Overall I consider Final Fantasy X to be a superior game for the same reasons you mentioned. The emotional plot.
BTW sorry for the caps. I don't see a way to indent or bold words on N4G.
I agree that Versus XIII aka FFXV looks fantastic and I too am a little troubled that it has gone in the action-rpg. It was known from the beginning (8 yrs ago!!) that it would be an action rpg but now that it a main numbered final fantasy it has me worried. If Bioware is anything to go by then I think it's safe to assume Square-Enix is going down the same path. In other words FFX-2 may have been the last turn based final fantasy and is now to be dominated by action rpg elements.

Personally I believe Final Fantasy XII was the last great Final Fantasy game released. In many ways it was an improvement over FFX but while it took many steps forward it also took many steps backward. Criticisms over the gambit combat system, unlikeable main character, while it had some of the best side characters of any Final Fantasy they were flat and static, little feeling of comradery/bonding/relationship s, etc.
Sadly Square-Enix couldn't figure out what fans were u...
FFXIII certainly isn't my favorite Final Fantasy. I think whether or not I purchase this will be dependent on how mod-able it is. I was simply amazed with the mods available for Skyrim. Would be amazing to see what the mod community would be able to do for FFXIII.
Most people are happy that there are sequels for Bioware games. I would be so happy if we were on Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) IV right now.
What you don't realize is that traditionally Bioware was a company that hardly ever made sequels/remakes.
They always challenged themselves and made something new. People wanted Balders gate to continue...Bioware made KOTOR. People wanted KOTOR to continue....Bioware made Jade Empire. People wanted Jade empire...
I agree it's to milk it for all it's worth. The fact that the EA logo now shows up on all Bioware games removes any doubt from my mind.
I remember the old Bioware. They constantly moved on creating new IPs just as great as the games that Bioware fans were wanting remakes for. They hardly ever made remakes (passed them onto other devs like Obsidian for remakes). They constantly challenged themselves with new IPs.
Since EA merger thing we are now on Mas...
I for one refuse to buy a Xbox One while Kinect is mandatory so this is good news. The Kinect is great for Skype but the mandatory rubbed me the wrong way. I might actually get a Xbox One eventually for the exclusives now that it's not required.
Did you dip your Xbox 360 "launch version" in liquid nitrogen lol.
I went through six of them, four of which had the Red Ring of Death, one had a problem freezing, and the last just broke. I was so happy I purchased the BestBuy extended warranty. They just replaced them instantly one after the other. Someone else I know went through three of them.
You are one of the luckiest 360 gamers out there.
I haven't seen one bad comment...so why all the disagrees for EVERYONE???
Well the game looks amazing BTW. I love turn based but I can overlook that because this action styled gameplay looks amazing.
If it does come to the PC please make it easily mod-able. Just imagine what the modding community will be able to do with an already gorgeous game. I mean look at Skyrim fully modded. Now imagine FFXV an already gorgeous game modded on the PC.
I agree the lineup looks very good. I am concerned about the overabundance of FPS though...
Now lets see how the PS4 compares for better or worse.
I am not a fan of the FFXIII games. That being said if Final Fantasy games are going to be on the PC then please make them easily mod-able. It's just amazing what people can to the graphics on Skyrim with mods. Imagine how good it will look with something like Final Fantasy.
The biggest problem with square is HR and marketing
I read an artical a while back and several square developers said their passion was FPS and love the idea of making one.....ummm square you are an RPG company...somebody in HR really dropped the ball in hiring and promotion (except for Nomura).
Marketing kept telling square to westernize and appeal to other gamers. I wonder who were in the polls? Ten year old COD holics. RPGs dont appeal to really young game...
You are correct. That being said simply changing classes to ravage then mashing auto then changing classes to assault and mashing auto got old real fast.
I wanted to cringe about 1/4 of the way through the game and it got worse from there. Wanted to cry of frustration and boredom with every enemy. Spent hours just trying to avoid battles which was impossible...too linear corridors.
Actually Hajime Tabata was the director of Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core and it's one of my favorite JRPG's of all time. I favor turn-based and ironically Crisis Core is an Action-RPG. A game which has my 2nd favorite Final Fantasy story and my favorite soundtrack of all time.
I don't think that FFXV's story is Tabata's fault. There have been many directors at the helm of FFXV's 10 year development cycle and it was formerly known as Final Fantasy Ve...
