...any of those movies will help shift Blu-Ray players. What a bunch of second rate titles. Where is Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Lion King, Cars, etc. All the big movies are being held back until it looks like a format will become the winner.

I'm not picking a format until (all) Star Wars and the Lord of the Rings trilogy are released. And if they only each come out on different formats then guess what, I'm not buying either.

...Its just that the trailer looked better. Yes, I am playing it on an HD-TV. I will say however, the latest edition of Doom on the PC (released a couple of years ago) still has better lighting effects.

Lets face it, beneath the glossy exterior GOW has very little to offer. The story is weak, the gameplay offers nothing new. Its still a scripted rail gun shooter as far as I'm concerned. Basically a game with one single path to get through it...yawn. So far, next-gen gamin...

I owned GOW for about 4 weeks and although initially I loved it, I eventually found the single player campaign to be a very shallow experience. Unfortunately I also came to hate the on-line "Team Deathmatches" as well. Basically, two teams running to the middle of a map to score the best weapons first then there's a short duke out until one person is left standing.

Over and over and over thats all the on-line play seemed to be. Run, weapon up, shoot, then do it aga...

The Xbox 360 has not even been out in NZ for a year and we're facing the prospect of a new model! I have no problem with a new model like Sony did with the Slimline PS2, but to introduce bigger features such as HDMI and 120Gig hard drive is annoying , especially fter MS has stated on many occassions that neither are needed.

If Microsoft dont offer me some form of upgrade deal then sorry, I am turning my back on the Xbox and will go with the PS3 later this year.

I personally consider that if you buy the media then you should be able to back the media up for you own personal use. I use backups in the car or around the house and lock the originals away from my kids. If the originals were to get stolen or heaven forbid, fall to DVD rot do you think they will be replaced by the manufacturer or insurance company. Hell no!

Basically, I will pay for it once but not twice. If it comes down to a showdown then I will simply stop buying DVDs ...

With the game engine being created by Codemasters in conjunction with Sony, looks like this will be optimised for PS3 first and then ported to other consoles. To be honest, I always preferred Rallisport Challenge (RC) over CMR titles. Where is RC3?????

...never take the place of disc. Oh, wait, thats why Sony is killing its UMD format in favor of digital downloads. Ok, we're talking megabytes and not gigabytes, but this is just the first step.

In 5 years time multi terabyte HDDs (or some form of storage device) will be standard and bandwidth will make it possible for the masses to download large files. I personally like the idea of digital distribution over buying discs. It becomes ridiculous when you have over 200 DVD'...

...I got a PSP in the first place. Was like having a portable Plasma screen in your pocket - the picture was so clear. However, 6 months of waiting for movies that would be priced accordingly, all we got here in New Zealand were UMD movies that were more expensive than the DVD!

With UMDs being so expensive I decided to compress from DVD. Oh, but wait. Sony make you compress in a resolution that makes that screen look like you're playing back a video cassette. If Sony do th...

Personally I hate Sony. Used to be a big fan but after the many years of watching their build quality on TV's and stereos plummet, and their crappy PSP, I have gone right off them. However, Blue-Ray will win because it has backing from the major studios such as Sony, Disney and Fox. These 3 studios alone have some major titles that will shift millions of players once released on Blu-Ray. Forget about the porn industry, think of what releases like Cars, Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Star Wars, ...

...to get at least 8 - 10 years out of the PS3. What a joke!!! in 5 years time the current cell in the PS3 will look as good as a 16-bit megadrive. If Sony is not releasing a PS4 in 2011 then they will probably be 2 years behind the next Xbox.

Consoles can only afford a 5-6 year life span given that technology moves so quickly. Oh, and who gives a damn about Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD. By the time you actually get your moneys worth, Blu-Ray players will be under $100. I wish every...

I have to agree with this. Sony is banking on the PS3 having an 8-10 year life span which as we all know in this industry, is crazy. The PS4 needs to be hitting store shelves in 2011 in both Japan and America. Regardless of what the Cell can do now, it will look as fresh as a 16-bit Sega Megadrive by 2011.

I also think that the entire race between Blue-Ray and HD-DVD is a lost cause. The days of digital distribution on disc format are numbered. By 2011 I reckon many of us ...

Using consoles for movie playback is ok but how many consumers wont go out and buy a dedicated player because they want all the bells and whistles that goes with it? I hate the fact that there is no front panel display on consoles or the built in sound decoding and picture options you get with high-end players, etc. Consoles are for games first and movies, music, etc second. Until there is one device that actually does all jobs well then I’m sticking with individual components.

This game looks absolutely insane! Jaw dropping visuals, solid physics engine and fantastic multiplayer!

Looks like the PS3 has its first (real) killer app!

...will not be getting one at launch. Too darned expensive!

In New Zealand the PS3 will be released for $1,199. Not exactly the family friendly $189 for the PS2 (which we have two of by the way). I'm sure initial NZ sales will be good but after a month they'll be sitting on store shelves. This is what happened when the PS2 launched in NZ.

Lets face it, although the PS2 was a hit it did not really reach huge numbers until it was repackaged and priced as the PS...

...this is an in-game video from several months back as the graphics do come across as being sub par for the Xbox 360. Anyone else notice the lack of a reflection and shadow on the car when it passes under that Goodyear tyre/billboard?

I am a big fan of the GT franchise but was a little disappointed with GT4 which seemed like a higer-res version of GT3. However, what annoys me is that people are so easily comparing GT-HD (5th generation GT) with Forza 2. Not quite apples with ap...

Anyone who says that the PS3 is doomed or does not have fantastic potential is fooling themselves.

The PS3 only needs a couple of killer games and I'm afraid a price drop.

In NZ the PS3 will cost $1,200 without a game. Yes it will sell but only to a very small market initially. For the same price I could buy a premium X360 (bundled together with 2 games), a second controller and 4 or 5 additonal games.

Its all about value for money right now - sim...

Actually, wait...why in the world would I want to put linux on my Xbox 360. If this is real (or fake) it just goes to show that some people have too much time on their hands. Lets get back to the business of playing games and not playing games if you catch my meaning.

...people were opting for the Wii over the PS3 (which is far too expensive right now) and the Xbox 360 because, correct me if I'm wrong, but the Wii is all about just having fun.

One of the big reasons the PS2 was so popular was because of its price and how it was aimed at kids (i.e. Eye-Toy, Singstar, Buzz - dont under estimate the importance of the kids market!). The PS3 at the moment is not aimed at kids (even though some kids will have one) and therefore does not as yet have...

The lack of force feedback is definately a negative (and probably the only one) for this franchise. I would much rather have force feedback than the tilt controller Sony opted for.
